Attempt at fixing e-mail issue causes messages to be erased

Some Shaw e-mail customers may be missing out on some messages.

Millions of e-mails were deleted Thursday when the company was troubleshooting an e-mail delay issue and an attempted solution caused incoming messages to be erased.

Some customers, like Jim Baxter, are only learning of the problem this weekend.

"For potential business I'll never know if I had response from clients or not.  And I'm absolutely livid because of the fact some of these are unrecoverable," says Baxter.

Officials with Shaw are calling this an isolated event -- adding the company has launched a review of its procedures.

LOL! This is just sloppy! I can't believe Shaw would not have redundant backup systems. This just shows once again where Shaw is headed. Cutting costs/jobs etc. Basically becoming another corporate whore. So sad.. Shaw used to be the best in Canada for everything. Including those who worked for them. Don't sell out like the rest of the pathetic big 3 have done.

@Vancouver Sucks This was an accident. Yes, there should be a way to recover these lost emails but how does this show "once again" where shaw is headed?
I find shaw to be excellent at customer service whenever I have had to phone in our live chat with a rep. Great installers and tech services. We all have differing opinions but your post is confusing as you don't detail how shaw is becoming a "corporate whoe". A WHAT?

@Vancouver Sucks agreed!! shaw SUCKS the big one, they are horrendous at providing their intended service as well as any sort of customer service, horrible company, so glad we got rid of their service in our house! though it took 2 hours on hold with "customer service" to achieve this.

Maybe they are trying to erase some emails they do not want to fall in the wrong hands! (sarcasm applied)Nothing will surprise me in BC.

@Ken280 Its a surprise to me that Ken280 did not relate this to the Liberals and say Go NDP Go.

Why was this not a story on Friday? That's when the chaos was first admitted by Shaw!

The only emails that went missing for me were the 100 or so junk messages I usually get on a daily basis, so I'm ok with it! I still received my emails into Outlook. The junk messages always end up in my webmail. And they can make those disappear any day!
