The official announcement will come Friday awarding the 2014 Grey Cup to Vancouver but while the spotlight shines on the city, no one from the city will actually be there.

The BC Lions have confirmed Mayor Gregor Robertson and members of city council were not invited to attend the Grey Cup announcement.

The Lions says the announcement will only feature the key players behind the bid namely themselves and the province.

For their part the Premier's office refused to confirm if Premier Christy Clark will be in attendance, or not.

The Lions do say the city will be a key part of the team down the road when it comes to planning for the game and of course for associated Grey Cup events.

The Grey Cup was last held in Vancouver in 2011.

The Mayor of Vancouver is taking the high road after being excluded from the Grey Cup announcement.

Gregor Robertson says what really matters is having Vancouver play host to the CFL's showcase game.

Robertson was asked if he feels snubbed after not being invited to the news conference.

"I am not worried about that the announcements are just the beginning and there is a lot of work to do to make it all happen and ultimately the success is when we actually host stuff and we get the big infusion of investment and support thats what really counts the announcements aren't what I am worried about.'

The Grey Cup has 'civic event status' in Vancouver and in the past the city has poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the game and associated festivities.

the BC Lions are bush league anyway.........can't Vancouver have a big city sport like the NBA or MLB... of coarse not because Vancouver is a small irrelevant little Canadian hockey town

@tedw_5037 Yea sure. Just what Vancouver needs. Another American corporate monopoly running a "sports" franchise in Vancouver.I would say one thing though.Vancouver was a much more affordable and livable city back in the days when it WAS small and less relevent. For the average person,I don't think our city is a better place to live just because it gets bigger.

Why would we invite the Chief of this No Fun City. When the seven people who use the Bike lanes want their annual race, we will give him his water pistol to start that race. Maybe they could all donate a dollar to enter the race, and we could use it to maintain the streets.
Would the Last business to Leave Vancouver, Please turn the Lights Out!

@Big B LOL!! Good one.But I would say that they can afford to pay more than $1 to enter the race.Word has it "Tides USA" has tons more money to spend in Canada.Or at least they will have if they succeed in driving up our carbon taxes. And you can be sure Mayor Moonbeam will be up to raising as many taxes as he can.

CKNW needs to edit the tag line - to 'left off' not 'left of'...

Lordship Moonbeam invites150,000 fans to a Stanley Cup party in a 6 square block radius of downtown Vancouver. After only one night of rioting and a mere 4 milion in damages and this is the thanks he gets? Shocking.

I think the CFL has done the right thing here. We've all seen what happens when Mayor Gregory runs a party. It's not pretty and we don't need him involved.
