Premier supports Black's refinery proposal
VICTORIA/CKNW (AM980)

3/7/2013

Premier Christy Clark is giving a strong voice of support to David Black's proposed oil refinery on the north coast.

Clark told the Legislature today the project must go through an independent environmental review, but she calls it a "credible" proposal that could generate six thousand full time, good paying jobs.

"Our government takes the view that we should work together to address the legitimate environmental and safety concerns and find a way to get to yes on projects that will grow our economy. This project, and the lng opportunity, both require leadership, and this is where my government stands."

Clark says the government has been working with the newspaper publisher to find a suitable site for the proposed refinery.

Shouldn't David Black be asking Adrian Dix though? Christy Clark will go from her position to a very highly paid welfare recipient in May. Doesn't make sense for him to talk to her.

@BlakeN She represents the government today. I can't see Dix turning it down anyway. It's a win win.

@BlakeN Why ask Dix? It's not like he would answer. We must wait until after the election before he's willing to say anything concrete.

Why would David Black want to waste his valuable time talking to our current premier? In addition to the concept being way over her head, she would probably support the use of foreign temporary workers anyway.

@SlimP_9860 Very well said, bye risky Clark.
    2. MichaelD_10 posted on 03/07/2013 05:15 PM
@SlimP_9860 The simple answer is he must have a vested interest. There will be no refinery with out government involvement. Tax breaks or funding. This is all media and election rhetoric.

Why have no refineries been built in the last 20 years?
Because there is no profit, When you have to pay wages with Can or US dollars, and at the north American rate of $40/hour.

Asian's are happy to work for 2bucks an hour.

Snookie you won't even be in government after May14.... Move on this is beyond you .....besides you have at least three scandals to get through yet....your budget passed but won't be implemented...thankfully....let Adrian deal with Mr. Black soon enough you will be a bad mamory
    1. 4645 posted on 03/07/2013 02:48 PM
@taxed to death Dix will answer it after May 14 and then back date it to make it look like he answered today.
    2. 4645 posted on 03/07/2013 03:37 PM
@taxed to death So you don't think a chief of staff to the premier creating a false document has anything to do with character? This wasn't a slip up or private affair, this was a deliberate act. And the NDP are wanting to give him free reign over the BC government. The really couldn't find someone that didn't have that kind of history. And with regard the skytrain, that would be a slip up.

BlakeN: "highly paid welfare recipient" How so? The voters in Vancouver-Point Grey, if voting for Christy Clark will have as their MLA, the Premier of B.C., or the leader of the opposition. Voting for the NDP candidate leaves them with a back bencher, either way as government or opposition.

If the Dix wins government, he does not have a say on anything. Jim SinClair becomes his new boss just like Ken Georgetti was the boss of Glen Clark.

All cabinet decisions have to be approved the B.C. Federation of Labour.

If you don't believe it, just ask Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home.

@joes_2868 How so? If she gets voted out the tax payers are on the hook for yet another "golden parachute". I'd say there needs to be immediate action to claw back these severance benefits. They are out of line with reality.

@joes_2868 Who are the Liberal/Cons of the coaition boss there, Thumper Joe?Could it be, Jim Shepard,Patrick Kinsella Brian Fehr, the zillionaire just to name a few! what's in it for them Thumper? At least with the unions people get to feed their families! What do these rich aho's, want?I think all of it and that is just fine with you or do you get something Thumper Joe! You tell the people what's in this for you, after all this corruption?Go NDP Go

Yes, it's much better to have a Govt. that is bought and paid for by Corporations because they have the people's best interest at heart.
Especially the social and environmental issues!
You give far too much influence to the B.C. fed who only represent the working people of this Province.
It's too bad the Lib's didn't do what the Union had to do and represent the working people of B.C. re: the Chinese miners issue.
I quess it's hard to do that when it was the Govt. who threw down the welcome mat for them. Now that's what I call Liberal "Jobs for B.C." corporate style baby!

So Christy is now saying she is all for the northern gateway pipeline... This whole song and dance is just a ploy to get the pipeline through BC
    1. Ron_26 posted on 03/07/2013 03:43 PM
@TonyB_0924 No. Where did she say that?
    2. 4645 posted on 03/07/2013 04:30 PM
@TonyB_0924 Dix said he was open to discussing the refinery but said the pipepline was a non starter. I'm not sure of the logic there but I'm sure that once in power, the unions the support the NDP will be pushing for the pipeline to be build (with all union labour) and the NDP will oblige.

Ron_26: TonyB probably just finished having coffee with Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home. Ken probably got him so upset, he couldn't think.
TonyB probably meant to add that it all depends on meeting a 5 point plan. Amazing how these so called NDP supporters if they really are, we do not know that, always don't put all the cards on the table.
  9. joes_2868 posted on 03/07/2013 04:23 PM
You really have to wonder if all of the comments we read here backing the NDP are from actual NDP supporters. All of the comments relate to a NDP government win in May, and yet Adrian Dix maintains that the election will be a nail biter.
I do not support Adrian Dix in anyway, shape, or form, but I do respect him in his comments about the election is going to be a close one.

    1. commonsense posted on 03/07/2013 05:58 PM
@joes_2868 Joe, don't count out the ridings that border Alberta. They are more likely to vote Tory. They will probably win a handful of seats.

Refinery in BC makes sense but put it in the Peace region for the crude is "cleaned up" before it crosses major rivers, gasoline is less heavy and can evaporate if spilled or leak. Also a refinery in the Peace would allow a diversion valve to give the option of supplying our fuel needs in this Province....once it's refined in Kitimat we won't have that option!
  14. TonyB_0924 posted on 03/07/2013 04:54 PM
So what happed to Christy’s 5 points???
Kitimat Clean Ltd. would include a new oil refinery to be built 25 kilometres north of Kitimat, B.C., to process 550,000 barrels a day of diluted bitumen from Alberta's oil sands.

The projected capital cost of the refinery is $16 billion. The plan also includes a $6-billion oil pipeline and a gas pipeline costing $2 billion. It may also incorporate its own new ocean-going tankers at a cost of $1 billion, Black said.
    1. commonsense posted on 03/07/2013 05:59 PM
@TonyB_0924 Why wouldn't her 5 points apply to this? Jobs for BCers, we can control the export. I think it meets her points. And no, Spinster Ken I do not have Liberal insider information. It's an assumption.
  15. StephenG_3 posted on 03/07/2013 06:42 PM
No political party in their right mind would throw away 6000 direct jobs plus hundreds more on spin offs. Yet it seems the NDP and their leftist friends do not care about jobs.
    1. Ken280 posted on 03/07/2013 08:06 PM

@StephenG_3 where does your information come from? You are asserting totally false information. Of course the NDP cares about jobs - all parties do.

The real issue is which party can best accomplish that goal.

Ken you a disappointment to the readers of this site.
