Chilliwack must chlorinate water full-time

Following weeks of arguments, Fraser Health has ordered that Chilliwack's water must be chlorinated, effectively immediately.

Chilliwack residents and the mayor have been arguing for weeks that their drinking water supply does not need chlrorine.

Fraser Health officials have disagreed, saying they do need a second disinfectant after e-coli was discovered more than once.

The authority has now flexed its muscle under the Drinking Water Protection Act to require permanent chlorination.

Mayor Sharon Gaetz says council is extremely disappointed, but they have no option but to comply.

Residents also didn't want to pay for the 1.5 million-dollar upgrade, and were concerned about health hazards.

Hundreds of people turned out at a rally last week, and MLA John Les even stepped in.

It a damn good thing we live in a democracy where big brother government can't ram their ideological beliefs down our throat. isn't it !!

@ChrisM_18 It's even better to live in a world where the scientific method rules. Science is not a popularity contest. And if it was, people like you would have been dead a long time ago.

@ChrisM_18 I think this issue is based on science not politics.

Get them all to sign a waiver that if they get sick or die from the water without chlorine then they can't sue the government.

@AndreaK_5056 Do they have to sign a waiver should they contract cancer which can be caused from drinking chlorinated water over a long duration.

Anyone who thinks we live in a democracy is dillusional. There has been a merger between state and corporate powers and the result is facism.

Disease control is the FSA's mandate. It's not that big of a deal since home and fridge water filters remove chlorine.

@WilliamS_3961 Well... They know what's best for you even if you don't !!

With all the comments on here about free choice when disease control is concerned, maybe the world really is too fool proof.

I don't get it. Why hasn't Darwin killed off those who don't believe in science yet? Is science really incorrect?
    1. ChrisM_18 posted on 03/07/2013 10:31 PM
@opq Science is about empirical equations that approximate observed relationships and speculative hypotheses. Today's knowledge will be proven incorrect in years to come as more information is gathered. If you rely on science to point you in the right direction, good luck to you !
