BCNU not interested in 10 year deal with province

While the Premier confirms she wants to get BC nurses signed to a 10 year deal, the idea seems to be a non-starter with the union itself.

BCNU President Deb McPherson just last week was asked if the nurses are in talks, or even interested, in a ten year contract.

"No no no. We had started out this last round of bargaining looking to settle maybe a four year agreement because the magnitude of changes in terms of staffing and shift scheduling and so on in this current agreement are significant and it will take us a couple of years to implement it so we were looking to have a bit of time to do that work."

McPherson says there has been some talk of an extension of the nurses two year deal but no bargaining.

She says if the NDP form government they could face a fiscal situation so tight it could work against nurses when the current deal expires.

    Seriously, has she taken leave of her senses?? This is utterly ridiculous. We are weeks away from an election, she has no mandate for this, and her government is flailing
    My god, I did not think this soap opera could get any worse, but I guess I was mistaken. This speaks volumes about Clark……..unbelievable. Is she trying to look like a fool, because she is succeeding well.

      @Cat We could wait for the Dippers . . . they will Borrow the Money and give all the Nurses a Big Raise . . . like they did in the 90's . . . after all . . . its someone else's money . . . right ! ! !
      Want to solve the problems in Healthcare? Easy . . . allow Private Competition . . . Private Hospitals and clinics.
      Step 2 . . . stop collecting Union dues from govt employees . . . make union membership Optional. This way the Union has to provide a SERVICE to the Members or they will depart.

      I remember the wage increases I got in the 90's while the Public sector was making out like bandits. I Got 0. 0. -10, 0, 0, 0, -10, 0, 0 . . . was not a happy time, of course my Children and I got to pay for the Dipper Misadventure . . .

      @CosmicS You mean the Sweet-Heart Contracts the Public Service Employees got from the Dippers? While the Private Sector got Layoffs or ZERO, then had to pay the bills and the High Taxes. They needed to be ripped up . . .

      @CosmicS They might pretend that there's no qualified nurses in Canada and bring in Chinese temporary workers at $10 an hour and no benefits.
