The office of B.C.’s police complaint commissioner has found that an Abbotsford officer lied about what happened during an arrest four years ago in which he assaulted an alleged shoplifter.

Constable Adam Page responded to a report of shoplifting at a drugstore in September 2009.

Video shows Page handcuffing the suspect, putting him into an arm and headlock and pushing him hard enough against a wall so as to put a hole in it.

Page stated both in writing and during interviews he had actually tripped and knocked himself and the suspect against the wall.

At the start of the commissioner's public hearing into the allegations, Page did plead guilty to assault, for which he got one year of probation, but still denied he had lied about what happened.

An adjudicator has found video clearly contradicts Page's account, which he says “intended to mislead others so that they would believe his use of force was justified.”

The parties have been asked to make submissions about discipline.

@Gerard M A repeat offender and while it was worng to
do what Page did, just how much can anyone take
when you arrest someone over and over again.

He has been a dedicated officer in Abbotsford for years,
but, obviously made a bad decision that day and he
is being held accountable for his actions.

As for the criminal element, I hope he learned his lesson
that day, because obviously, the courts did NOT get thru
      to him at all.

Surprise Surprise - another member of a police force has lied about his behaviour !! But this time there was video evidence so no one could turn a blind eye to what has been going on for years !!

Too bad there wasn't video camera evidence of what happened in Houston BC a few years ago !!

@ChrisM_18 I do not believe the statement that the video camera in Houston was not turned on. Why would it be turned off??? Remember. Cops lie. Easy to say it wasn't turned on. At the very least, someone should have been disciplined for not having it turned on.

@ChrisM_18 I wish there was a working camera in the Houston BC RCMP detachment that day. Then we would know the truth, that Ian BUSH tried to kill a police officer and got exactly what was coming to him. So sad he's been turned into a martyr by the media and others who are not informed. Do some research into the inquest and the 3, yes 3 separate investigations into this matter. Even if you don't believe the RCMP investigation, there were 2 separate investigations done by public complaints commission (they are civilian and do not answer to the RCMP) and there was another investigation done by the BC Coroner's service who have no allegiance to the RCMP. There was even a public inquest. All of the above investigations and inquests concluded that the police officer was defending himself. Now can you imagine trying to orchestrate a cover up that big? With so many players? I guess conspiracy theorists will never be satisfied.

Who ratted on the cop? Sometimes a good slap gets children in line. Perhaps we should be looking into that idea for criminals.

@RichardF_4221 Be careful what you ask for as you may not really enjoy the end result. If you think giving the cops permission to take on the role of meting out punishment , just think of what happened at the airport a few years ago !
Monty the Mounty wasn't handing out punishment , but it's this kind of uncontrolled violence that you will get if you let the cops cut the corners !!
