Abbotsford Police have been busy trying to make their city the worst place for a gangster.

After almost zero gang-related homicides in the last two years, chief constable bob rich says if they continue down this path, he's confident Abbotsford will be the safest city in BC.

“We ensure people involved in gang aren't at bars and creating a public risk. We've shined a lot of light on it through a lot of different media things we did. We ended up going to every school every school, whether high school or middle school talking to the kids about what they can do about getting involved in horrible things like gang."

In 2008 the city was named the murder capital of Canada.

That, Constable Rich says, prompted Abbotsford Police to create a "gang suppression unit".

He spoke on the issue at a Rotary Peace Forum Friday.

Chief Bob Rich have taken a pro-active apporach to gangs.drugs/crime
in our community and crime prevention is key to changing the status quo.

It is about educating our young people about Drugs, Gangs and drug-related
crime and other negatives, which follow this lifestyle.

Drugs/Gangs/Crime are like a scourge on a community and Abbotsford
residents were caught in the middle of the whilrwind of dysfunction.

When, I reflect about the time between 2003-2009 and present time, what
    an incredible difference!

Kudos to all our Officers, who spent countless hours weeding out the
    criminal element.

Shame on past Mayor and Council, who turned a blind eye to the
drug problem in our city for years, until, the bullets started flying
in broad daylight, California tourists caught up in it and shots fired
near a developer's office, who sits on the cities economic development
    Commision.

In fact, in 2006 the members on the cities' economic development
commision's focus was on "the cities image."

The members on the Police Board, many of them business people
in the community, also, did not address the escalating drug/gang/crime
problem until it all erupted that one afternoon!

The Abbotsford Police Dept., who were finally given the green light to
procede by ex- Mayor Peary have done a great job keeping tabs on
the gang activity and affiliations in the city.

YUP - nothing more than a relocation program!

Abbie has gang watch - where they scan your id and take your picture
WOOOPIE - do you really think this is tracking GANG MEMBERS or
ONCE AGAIN....... just the honest tax paying sucker!!!!!
Gang bangers don't fall into these traps
they just make their own fun - somewhere else
Maybe even still Abbie - but just harder to find................

Maybe it is better to keep them in the in the spotlight
at least then you know where they are...................
