The President of the Vancouver Film Studios is casting doubt the province grabbing the Times of India Awards sShow will mean any influx of movie jobs into BC.

Pete Mitchell says productions from india are low budget and bring in their own people.

"I saw a clip very recently of a producer from Mumbia when asked if he was going to produce shows here in BC as a result of this show laugh and say it is not really feasible, it is very expensive, but maybe the beauty would make up for it. That doesn't really sound like a ringing endorsement or a source of jobs for anybody in the film and television industry."

Mitchell says inaction by the Clark government has BC "very close to missing the boat" in film production jobs.

He says it costs five million dollars more to shoot a major film in BC as compared to Toronto.

@ChrisM_18 sounds like reality to me. a film worker in india makes far less than half what a canadian worker makes.... and christy clark is claiming they are coming here to film.... BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Let's see how the Liberals are managing our finances.

First we were told we could maybe see a tax cut this year, then the cupboards were bare, then $1.5 billion in the hole, now a balanced budget in February.

$15 million partisan advertising campaign out of a contingency fund set up for and only to be used during an emergency, now another $12million for this "copycat" show.

The BC film industry is almost in its dying days, with only 50% of its workforce working at any given time, productions going everywhere else but here.

BC Hydro deferring expenses and debt so they had "false" surpluses to hand over to the Liberals so they could balance 5 of 12 budgets. A Liberal government that has not increased economic growth beyond the average of 3.5% per year for the past thirty years. No new sources of revenues because they cut taxes so much so and rely so heavily on natural resources to bring in revenue that the budgets are rarely in the black. Carbon Tax, increased MSP premiums, higher government service fees, cuts to services and more cuts to services, asking school and health boards to find more money for the raises the government decided to give public service unions in an election year. All this when expenses continue to rise for everyone.

HHHhhhmmm. . .they don't seem all that much different than any other government here or anywhere else. The Social Credit did the same crap, the NDP did the same crap and the federal Conservatives are doing the same crap. . . maybe I'll just bury my head in the sand and let the Liberals buy my vote. . .

Well, when BC tries to compete with the economic mess Ontario has made for itself, we'll obviously end up even more dismal than they. Then what will we pat ourselves on the back for winning?

The full court propaganda press is on.

Just remember that it is the job of these film execs to sell you fantasy. These last couple weeks of their choreographed bleating for taxpayer's dollars is being done by experts in manipulation. Don't ever forget that

@DavidSB Exactly ! The motive here is stictly profit maximization and if they can get more tax dollars that's more in their pocket

@DavidSB Can't wait for the sequel!
Maybe there will be a twist we did not expect.......
maybe....the film execs will finally meet the Wizard
and he will grant them a heart, a brain, and some courage to be real and appreciate the little people!

hmmmmmm - I guess Happy Endings are only in the movies!

News Flash! Planning for the new Bollywood Film to be produced in B.C. is already underway. Vancouver Film Studios didn't even make the short list. Production will be in Christy Clark's kitchen. This one show serial will last 22 minutes.

@RegA [deleted] well you could be very close to the truth
after all PORNO is the #1 film industry around the world
and all you need is akitchen ....or bedroom.....or living room.......or just a camera really.......

The movie industry really does NOT need location anymore
BC - India - the moon - really? does it matter?
green screens and other trickery is the key to making movies!
Then ONLY reason they want cheaper - is so the RICH producers and actors can make MORE MONEY!
Nothing here or there is going to see increases for the hobby-job movie people!

It's not Bollywood. Never has and never will be. It's called the Indian Movie Industry. Nobody in India likes that name nor is it official. No such thing as Bollywood.

@H_Gill GASP - Are you ALLOWED to say Indian?
