As Toronto loses its mayor in a  conflict of interest case a prominent name on the federal political scene is being asked to run for the job.

Olivia Chow, wife of late NDP leader Jack Layton, says she hasn't made any decisions yet.

But the NDP's Transport critic and Toronto-Spadina MP says there is an effort underway for her to jump into civic politics and run for mayor.

"People have been asking me and I have said well I will think about it but in the meantime lets get these infrastructure problems fixed first."

A recent poll found if Chow were to run she would beat Rob Ford, who was removed from office today, over conflict of interest charges.

Of course she will run and win. Toronto has become a socialist loser city which is very very sad. it was once a power broker city

Rob Ford was set up. between socialist people there and Liberal Judges Mr Ford did have a chance

He was attacked on every front - even reporters were hanging onto his fence with their camers pointed into his family home

Well I think we are not much better than Cuba

@AnneH_4 Anne, that is a pathetic comment. Sorry, but it is. Rob Ford is a pathetic loser. He is a sad sad politician who cannot manage to do any good.

Canada's major cities have the most laughable mayors. Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal. It's all a complete joke!

Horse$*it. He contravened statutes, was advised to pay $3000 and refused. Then he figures it's OK to vote on your own ethics ruling. Then to court where he claims ignorance. The judge was appointed by that famous lefty Stephen Harper. Don't let facts get in the way of pragmatism.
Hit the reset button and keep the cow droppings off to the side.

It wasn't just a left wing conspiracy - Elvis and his Martian team were involved. The PAB can't even get their facts straight.

I say good riddance. Ford is a real piece of work. Toronto will be better served by all most any one.

Ken - You know when life worked much better than it does now? It was when many women did not go to the work place but did volunteer work - They spotted kids that were hungry and did not have warm clothes (there were many ways they did this) and they took care of it quietly - there were many volunteer organizations that stepped up to the plate

Also the churches were more involved - and I do not have a religious bone in my body but the people in the churches had compassion for their fellow man -----
    so food for thought

Things will never go back to those days and for that I am sorry ......

When governments started taking over these 'tasks' for lack of a better word People were lost in the cracks - forgotten etc....
