An out of court settlement has been reached in a long-running dispute between organizers of the 2010 Olympics and a popular Vancouver ice cream shop.

Mario's Gelati lost business during construction of the nearby Olympic Athletes Village along False Creek.

VANOC staff initially promised roadwork outside the shop on the corner of Quebec and First Avenue would only take a few weeks.

It lasted more than seven months.

The case was slated to go to court this month, but a settlement was reached in September.

A confidentiality agreement prevents the release of how much money was awarded.

The initial claim was for more than 2.5-million dollars.

When reached by phone, owner Mario Loscerbo says he's happy with the outcome.

Good to hear. Too bad the same thing did not happen for Susan Hayes on Cambie Street

Good to see a little guy win.
I guess we just add this total to what the 2 ring circus that came to town cost us. The RETREADED SOCREDS and THE TOWN DRUNK have never released a total for what all that nonsense cost us. And never will.

@BY Are you overwhemed by the glut of tourism dollars that have flooded the city after the Olympics ?
Have you benifited from all the extra business that has come to Vancouver since our Olympic exposure ?

No ? I didn't think so - because all the promised Olympic spinoff was just so much BS from politicians - who knew better - but just couldn't pass on the opportunity to get more media exposure

Just don't know what to do with all the money the TOWN DRUNK said would be rolling in.
And about the true cost of THE TWO RING CIRCUS coming to town. That will never be known. I worked foe the City of Vancouver (retired now). The amount of things that I saw going on for the circus that were hidden by the City of Vancouver and The Board of Parks and Recreation was just not to be believed. Costs that were charged to maintenance of excisting assets, pools ice rinks, comunity centers etc etc that were actually for building things for the TWO RING CIRCUS.

@BY I don't know who are the bigger criminals - the International Olympic comitee and all their hangers on - on the local politicians who used the opportunity to direct buckets of money to their friends - but the end result is the same - after the TV cameras stopped , you and I were handed a massive bill and the party headed off to fleece the next city

Insanity that people keep getting sucked in to these shenanigans

Ah, the Olympics. The gift that keeps on giving. How many more cases like these are in the works? I hope this gets included in the final accounting for Furlong's/Campbell's little wealth transfer project. Canada should enact a constitutional amendment prohibiting any future olympic bids - could call it the Taxpayer Protection and Respect Act.

      @August I'd vote for that !
You have to know however that the only mainstream party that might consider including this in their campaign is the Green Party - so no chance of ever coming to frruition- or if it came up as a private members bill , the Senate would kill it

Please explain why Russia is spending billions on the 2014 Olympics, a country full of bureaucracy.

@joes_2868 Because it is a big party for the dictators and vips that the people will have to pay for.
