Someone wants Jim Sinclair’s job as the head of the BC Federation of Labour.

Michelle Laurie is an electrician and president of Local 258 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

She says it's time to renew the federation.

Laurie says she wants to change how the public perceives organized labour, and give it a more credible and proactive voice -- making it about more than protests and speeches.

"We need to be at a lot of tables that we are not at, and we can't do that just by demanding that we be there. We need to show why we're relevant. We need to show how it is that we can bring informed debate to the table."

For his part, Sinclair says he's had challengers before and he's confident he will be re-elected at the group's convention next month.

He is just worried about his hip pocket. The hip pocket that will not cure him from a terminal disease.

From what I know about Sinclair, go Michelle!
Sinclair is all about what's best for him; just ask the HEU about he sold them out for the Nurse's benefit, because it was better for his career.
I just hope she's not like that nitwit that's head of the BCTF...then unions in this province will still be in trouble.

@MikeD_5831 I agree, HEU was sold out and the inaction from the BCFed makes me question Sinclair's leadership. We need new blood.

@ChrisM_18 Stop with the age joke. - Sometimes the best meat is well aged, the best wine is aged wine, and the oldest buildings have the most charm - so there's hope. Who knows you may want to run for political office in the future.

@ChrisM_18 You can’t teach an old dog new tricks but it takes an old dog to teach a young one

We are tired of Sinclair's self serving existence. Sound bytes and ghost written speeches don't cut it anymore partner. Time to move on and let intelligent leadership take over.

I have no doubt Mr. Sinclair is sincere in his beliefs. However, Ms. Laurie may be the catalyst BC Labour may need to make Unions more relevant and welcome at policy tables rather than spouting the same old rhetoric that hasn't changed in a hundred years. Ideas on minimizing pressure on public spending while contributing ideas that are worthy would be most welcome in this province.

@AlT Yes Sir! you want someone to bow over and take it like a good old boy! come to the table with no fight just bending as far as the company tells you! We need more fighters in this Canada not wimps like you seem to need! Harper and the BC libs fight the workers at every turn even ripping up contracts! You want this with no fight, just a yes girl or Guy.

What does the BC fed boss make anyway?

Mr. Sinclair has done nothing to change the public perception of unions. He has been and always will be seen as a partner for the NDP such as his take on the HST.

@commonsense The HST was hated by most people in BC and still is! You say you have commonsense? questionable! You now ask how much money he makes what business it of yours it is because it is not the $10.25 per hour that you hated coming in! right wingers you can't even agree among yourselves that is why you have 2 party's BCPC and Liberals.

It would be nice to be rid of the nasal bleatings of James Sinclair, I must admit.
