A 35-year old man is dead after falling from his motor scooter in Surrey this morning.

It happened about 2:30 in a construction zone near 176 Street and the Fraser Highway.

The driver lost control of his bike.

"He fell to the pavement and sometime after a vehicle also travelling eastbound on the Fraser Highway struck the man," says RCMP Staff Sgt. Bob Pinkewycz. "As a result of that, the driver of the motor scooter passed away."

Alcohol is not being considered as a factor, but speed could be involved.

Police say it's too early to discuss any possible charges.

That is the only intersection in the Western Hemisphere that has been "Under Construction" for 5 years. I could understand something with 12 inch wheels hitting a 24 hump in the road causing issues.

Too true RegA, and they still have to do all the construction up the hill Westbound of 176th St. They started that bloody project 2-3 years before the new Port Mann Bridge.....and look at, the bridge is almost done. The slowest moving contractor I have ever seen on that Fraser Hwy project. I think someone is doing a little milking don`t ya think??

That stretch of road is a pathetic mess! The road is cracked all over, uneven, potholes. It's a deathtrap for motorcycles. I believe this accident was a direct cause of POOR and NEGLECTED road maintenance. Like others have said, it's been under construction for 5 years and is a sitting mess. Surrey needs to get off their ass and do something about it. Go drive it if you don't know how bad it is.
