Premier reacts to memo leak and nasty comments
VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980)

2/27/2013

Premier Christy Clark is deflecting questions about more alleged misdeeds by members of her government.

Speaking after attending an anti-bullying event at  Vancouver's Point Grey secondary clark refused to call  long time Liberal MLA Kevin Krueger a bully for offensive comments he's made about another political party.

"It's  not appropriate.  I don't call people names.  There's a reason I don't call people names -- today of all days -- I don't think we want to get political about it."

Clark also tried to defend leaked documents showing her party is  trying to cash in on the ethnic vote in May - she will only say it's important to listen to multicultural groups.

Really? So its no big deal? Imagine the holy outrage of the BC Liberals had this been done by the NDP in its last days of power; 16pts behind the opp'n heading towards an election.

Scandal and corruption = scandal and corruption no matter the party.

Resign and call an election IMMEDIATELY.

Marcella and company, when are you going to start doing some stories about NDP material? You've been extremely one-sided on this forum and it's getting to be boring. You didn't even cover the NDP "gathering" over the weekend. I'm genuinely interested in what's going on in their camp - if anything.

Christy Clark used the services of Bajwa last election
to round up the ethnic vote in wealthy South Surrey.

It's no secret she is very connected with several ethnic
voters and the Bollywood extravganza is a perfect example.

It is important to listen to multicultural groups, but, I question,
when guys like DeJong has his buddy round up 10,000+ new
memberships just before the election...............does that
qualify listening to the ethnic vote?

PeterK_18: Are you going to run as a NDP candidate? You have the qualifications as shooting from the hip is one of them.
    "16 points behind the opposition"
Please explain to the readers why this same situation faced the incumbent governments in Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario, all showing for a defeat, but on election day, were all returned to another term of government.
The readers would like an explanation.

@joes_2868 How long will you continue to defend the BC Liberal Government, a government now using government employees and money to develop BC Liberal Party Campaign materials and what not in order to get the ethnic vote.

      A few quotes for you:

"Let me be clear: This government has no mandate to govern. This government is illegitimate in the eyes of the public today. They have no moral right to govern. This government has no mandate to pass legislation, no mandate to make appointments, no mandate to pass a budget.
"So I want to be clear that following an election, should the Opposition be elected to government, we reserve the right to suspend legislation so it can be properly reviewed, to amend legislation or to repeal it. We reserve the right to dismiss any new appointments that this government makes, because this government's regime is over."

Premier Christy Clark’s office and caucus were directed to work hand-in-glove with her B.C. Liberal party to develop government policy, political messaging and crucial election databases as part of a strategic courtship of the province’s ethnic vote, leaked documents show.

@joes_2868 Sometimes the pollsters get it wrong, sometimes right.
Mitt Romney and others were convinced the polls were skewed too. Turns out they were right and Obama won by a compelling margin. Angus Reid polled the US election and was bang on.
As the campaign officially starts, I expect the gap may change, but they have been reliable in BC elections. But if you want to invent your own numbers to believe in, cool! Good luck with that :)

I can't help but wonder if the new business office in London is a cookie for Christy for making sure the NDP has a stinking pile of debt to deal with when they get in. Now, when they have to raise taxes to clean up the debt, the liberals will be able to scream about how the NDP is bad for business. Big business will hold onto their cash for four years while the libs blame the NDP and eventually get re-elected so they can resume the gravey train that businesses have enjoyed while the liberals were in power. Most of us commoners will just have to get used to lower standards of living. Christy and Gord will live in luxury, laughing.

Funny how the opposition and media jump all over anything done by a government member as if it's the Premier, or Prime Minister's fault. Apparently trying to run a province or country, and please everybody's opinion and sensabilties isn't enough. They also have to be baby sitters. I can see if the leader read the memo before it was sent further and let it go, then it's his or her problem. These people are responsible adults, and how they act is their fault, nobody else's. Jumping on someone that wasn't directly involved in the problem at a public forum directed at children is scumbag reporting at best.

bctaxpayer: Adrian Dix to win the NDP a majority government. How so? The NDP need 49% plus of the majority vote to win government. Do your research.
    1. PeterK_18 posted on 02/27/2013 08:28 PM
      @joes_2868 Constitutional lesson for you.

To win a 'majority government', the leading party must win 44 seats. And by winning a seat, that simply means one more vote than the runner up. Winning a majority government has never meant (as you state) 49% of the vote. BC Liberals never won more than 49% in 2009, 2005; the NDP didn't get 49% in 1972, 1991, or 1996 either.
That might suck, as most people would prefer their government to have an absolute majority mandate, but given two chances to change our voting system, both failed...so this is what we live with.

I do not know who you vote for, but maybe you can answer why are the NDP going to be a one time wonder in Nova Scotia.
    1. WizardOron posted on 02/27/2013 08:13 PM
@joes_2868 Nova Scotia does not concern me and the BC Liberal record is not much better than the NDP. How much do they have to juggle the books before people wake up to that fact? The BC Liberals shuffle money all over the place to make their budgets less than terrible than they really are. They redefine debt so it looks more pretty but it's still debt whether be put off to BC Hydro, BC Ferries or classified as Contractual Obligations. They have overspent our money by $6 billion.

I want a government that is straight talking, one that will use accepted accounting principles to deal with money coming in and money going out.

I don't need a lecture from you or anyone else about the NDP, you as everyone else out there has the right to their own opinions. You make opinions joes_2868, not factual statements. If I vote NDP that is my right. as it is is for anyone else in this province or anyone who leaves a comment here. I lived and worked through the 90's and know what happened then and I have worked and lived through the last decade and know what has happened with it.

The BC Liberals capitalized and took advantage of the high commodity prices and return of the mining sector in the province to give us some tax breaks. They were not responsible for those commodity prices that was decided on by the market and supply and demand cycles of the need for natural resources.

The BC Liberals are now struggling as did the Social Credit and NDP before them when the commodity prices started to nosedive and eventually crash in the mid 90's. So in MY RIGHTFUL OPINION they are doing nothing that makes me say they have done anything more than an average job of governing this province and NO I WILL NOT VOTE FOR THEM!!!!!
