VANCOUVER/CKNW (AM980)

2/26/2013

The Federal NDP is starting an online petition to try and convince the Harper government to re-open the Kitsilano Coast Guard base it closed last week.

New Westminster-Coquitlam MP Fin Donnelly, Vancouver East MP Libby Davies, and Vancouver Kingsway MP Don Davies argue it was an irresponsible decision by the Conservatives that puts lives at risk.

You can look at the petition at ndp.ca/savekits.

    Major News Flash!!!!!

CC and the BC Liberals were well aware months ago that we (the province) of BC actually own the land at the Kits base. While the pom pom princess was blowing her horn last week about " being tough and the fight isnt over" she knew months ago what was about to transpire with the base......another liberal smoke and mirror show....shes taken on an all new level of liar!

Go read the real news at Alex Tsakumis

The NDP are only using this as a "look good" media opportunity. Why did they wait until AFTER it was closed to get interested and take some action?

@woodstover Same reason dumb A$$ Bond waited to write a letter last week....Wake up and get current, Dix was at almost every gathering, Clark was a no show...as usual...Keep in mind the Liberals are the government and under obligation, the NDP being the opposition has no obligation

@woodstover Actually the NDP were very vocal opponents to the closure from day one. You have your "facts" confused.

I would suggest that everyone who is opposed to the base closure sign the petition. Time to put party politics on the back-burner and support the local community by becoming active about local issues however and whenever possible.
