Another poll suggests budget did little for BC Liberals
VANCOUVER/CKNW (AM980)

2/25/2013

If the latest Angus Reid poll is accurate, the BC Liberals have stalled and the throne speech and budget have not helped them catch up to the NDP.

Says pollster Mario Canseco: “If anything, there's a little bit of a jump for the NDP on some of the issues, particularly Adrian Dix being seen as a better economic manager than Christy Clark.”

The New Democrats still enjoy a 16-point lead over the Liberals – one point better than the previous Reid poll in January.

And Dix enjoys a 12-point lead over Christy Clark when it comes to approval ratings.

I wonder if this is like the NW bogus poll "will you wear pink to support anti-bullying?" suggesting that if one doesn't wear a pink shirt, he or she supports bullying?

@Ron_26 Assumptions are everything in polls and public questions. Word the question right, and you can get the answer you want. Asking about a government budget is erroneous at best. How many of us have read any more about the budget than what pundits and politicians have thrown out?

She (Clark) continues to be the Lib's biggest stumbling block.....with another leader there would be a glimmer of hope (an ever so slight glimmer) It would have to be someone of Dianne Watts skill set....its clear the people of this province are simply in need of change....and Clark just isnt it, she simply cannot be trusted for a wide variety of reasons.....if only BC had a REAL 3rd choice, because i dont believe yet that Dix is a leader

@taxed to death You took these words right out of my mouth, how true withrisky Clark gone there would be a glimmer of hope BUT with risky at the helm the BC lie beral party has has NO chance at all. This woman is just Tooooo arrogant and cannot be trusted ever.

I really don't get the logic behind this....

Just because Christy Clark is bad, does that make Adrian Dix good?

    No!

@NewsA bingo! your exactly correct..it has literally come down to the lesser of two evils....neither should be leading this province and Cummins has lost his marbles....

id sure like to see a good group of honest independants form a party....then again honest and politics in BC just dont match
    2. bctaxpayer posted on 02/25/2013 02:18 PM
@NewsA Dix would make a better Premier.

Sad to say, as before I will vote against someone not for someone. So my vote goes to LIBERALS.
    1. WayneM_2492 posted on 02/25/2013 12:28 PM
@more4u I 100% agree with your analysis. My Liberal vote will go to the NDP this time to clean house. To say that Christy is a bad leader would be inappropriate as she does not have any virtues a leader should have, good or bad. I will vote against this Liberal government. Hopefully next time around I have a real leader and party interested in the people of British Columbia to vote for.
    2. bctaxpayer posted on 02/25/2013 02:20 PM
@more4u My vote goes to Dix all the way.

taxed to death: I agree with your comments also. To make somewhat of a change would be to have both the NDP and Liberals sitting in opposition or taking a term of a minority government.
    1. WayneM_2492 posted on 02/25/2013 12:30 PM
@joes_2868 That would be a good thing except to arrive at a minority government you need more than 2 parties in the running. The BC Conservatives shot themselves in the face. The only hope would be with an elected group of independents.

@joes_2868 "To make somewhat of a change would be to have both the NDP and Liberals sitting in opposition or taking a term of a minority government."

I respect your right and freedom to express that thought.

I agree, she is not the person to lead the Liberals. For some reason, the public just doesn't like her, period. The problem I have is who else do I vote or? I feel strongly the same way about the NDP. Adrain Dix is a crook and a liar. If the NDP had a different leader, I would vote for them, and I am a long time Liberal supporter. But he is just too much to stomach.

@NewKat Vote Conservative!! a minority government will be good for the people and bad for the folks that pay for election campaigns.

@NewKat Dix is a crook?? Now what is that based on?

I am sick of all the polls. This is getting so out of hand with all the polls, each and everyday. Statistics and polls are the easiest thing to manipulate for accuracy. To get a little better accuracy, perhaps they should be asking if the respondants actually vote. Most of them are always bitching about government and Big Brother. Since 50% voter turn out seems to be impressive, perhaps we should take polls for what they are. Especially when they are negative towards any sitting government, which they almost always are. And no, I'm not a liberal hack. Just sick of the weight media puts on polls.
    1. MichaelD_10 posted on 02/25/2013 02:03 PM
@RichardF_4221 Back in the day. Before Trudeau. publishing poll results before an election was illegal because it was thought to throw elections.
    2. Ken280 posted on 02/25/2013 10:12 PM
@RichardF_4221 To myself i just think a poll is a pole but to a Liberal when running far behind now it's a problem with the liberal supporters and it is the media to blame,We have been saying that for a very long time. As you will see they have to distance themselves away, from the sinking ship in order to look balanced in their reporting.Soon we will all see the attacks come with headlines telling us that the Liberals are winning! Then i will believe your theory, as an NDP supporter I have seen just about all from the news media and how they had for 3 election now had the NDP running last and they were responding to polls.Good for you then but bad for you now and it's all the medias fault! Go NDP Go

The only way to effect change is to have a massive increase in voter turnout and convincing voters to cast their ballot for the candidate that best represents themself, their family and community. Only then will we have politicians truly held responsible to represent their constituents rather than the higher ups.
    1. MichaelD_10 posted on 02/25/2013 03:02 PM
@RichardF_4221 I'm with you on this one. We will still have a bunch of people who's only new source are those influence peddling main stream media. But good government has a better chance when more folks participate.

    THIS ARE ACTUAL FACTS:

The January 2013 Angus-Reid poll indicated that 51 percent of those earning $100k or more favoured the BC Liberals compared to 34 percent who favoured the NDP.

The February 2013 Angus-Reid poll indicates that 46 percent of those earning $100k or more favoured the NDP compared with 40 percent who favoured the BC Liberals.

THIS IS AN OPINION, based on facts:

A very surpriing reversal which suggests a lot of people are altering their opinion of the BC Liberals...In my opinion..
    1. RichardF_4221 posted on 02/25/2013 03:48 PM
@insite But again...who was actually asked? Was it the same people? Were they all voters who fill out a ballot? What was the question? and how when there are millions of people in the province, does asking a small number have any sort of accuracy like they always tout? + or - x% y% of the time. So some of the time they are accurate, some of the times they're totally off the wall?
Polls are, I still strongly contend, too inaccurate to be relied on, and actually influence too many voters. They should not be permitted in an election year, nor should media be allowed to mention them.

@insite Even the grey hairs in point grey are tiring of the incessant ads telling us how good the libs are doing. Even during hockey games. They have money because they are not stupid and seeing taxpayers money squandered bothers them to no end. Point grey may well go orange this time around:)

It is a fact that the Angus-Reid poll reported that those earning $100k or more now favour the NDP over the BC Liberals based on Jan-Feb polling. In my opinion, this is the first time that Angus-Reid has reported this result.

Angus-Reid is a professional organization and conducts random polling as opposed to "internet" polling (question of the day) conducted by this station.

As with any polling, I agree the results may actually depend on exactly who is polled. But, who knows? Perhaps, the throne speech and "balanced" budget may have been bigger factors than the occupation of the respondent since the Ispos Reid poll would seem to subtantiate that observation that a lot of people were unimpressed. It is never one factor that influences responses to a pollster.

It is interesting that no one questioned previous polls when those earning $100k plus consistently favoured the BC Liberals. But, that is understandable.

That said, there are always people who are nevertheless very pleased with the overall Angus-Reid poll results while others are feeling very uncomfortable.

    This happens all the time....
    1. RichardF_4221 posted on 02/25/2013 10:58 PM
@insite Perhaps the budget is part of the problem. Not enough blind promises were made to please people.

Not going to sway anyone's opinion. I'm just still wondering how a poll can truly gauge the knowledgable voter when no-one knows the policies and ideas of the opposition. Besides saying they like trees, want more jobs, and all the other things that we all agree on...they haven't said anything of substance for well over a year. The NDP makes broad statements so general that we can't but help agree with them. Like a rock star who inserts city name into the gregarious statement "We love you (INSERT NAME HERE), the NDP has not offered any substance beyond popular rhetoric, that the government could very likely offer up with almost precisely the same wording. We like trees, we think animals are cute and cuddly, we believe we need more jobs (as if the Liberals, Conservatives, and Communists don't?). Give us substance from all contenders instead of greeting card comments, along with an open media to allow free flow of ideas instead of polls and opinions.
I am not defending the Liberals. I am simply stating what I see as fact. Piling on the government is sport in Canada.

@RichardF_4221 you really mean you believe these Liberal/cons of the coalition did nothing to anger most of the voters in BC! They are making a frenzy among the right wing, to even believe they might be out of the loop to make the easy money, now they might have to work for it! (The Liberals, Conservatives, and Communists) are the Communists running a party in this election? Are you insinuating that we that support the NDP are communists?Wow! If you think so must be making you feel really badly that your Government are making deals with them in mining! If the NDP are communists then maybe they might make better dealings with them,is that what you are saying?Go NDP Go

The Liberals do not deserve to form the next Government period.
I wish we had an alternative to the N.D.P but we dont at this time.
We used to have 3+ good parties to chose from now ? Mixed Nuts Now.
  13. MichaelD_10 posted on 02/25/2013 05:56 PM
We still have the Conservatives . Nom one has given me any reason to ignore the Conservatives other than the media reporting of some disgruntled Liberals in the CONSERVATIVE PARTY.
    1. Ken280 posted on 02/25/2013 10:39 PM
@MichaelD_10 you are trying hard but the Liberals came and blew you up!!!If you will you will need the Liberals to help you.then take you over to the Cons/Liberals of the coalition! Go NDP Go!

For all those supporting the idea of polls please note the first line of the article above ( "If the latest Angus Reid poll is accurate" ) Even CKNW, a media outlet that often touts polls admits that they may not always be correct.

The NDP is touting new and better government with changes to how things are done. So what is the way they are going to effect these changes?
