Two of the Canucks owners have been handed the highest single penalty in 2012 by WorkSafe BC.

Francesco and Roberto Aquilini, as well as Elisa Aquilini, have been fined $125,000 for failing to maintain in safe operating condition the farm vehicle they used to transport farm workers.

WorkSafe's Al Johnson says this is a repeat violation: “Where we see repeat violations, one plays upon the other, if you will, and that's what has happened in this particular place – to get them to approximately $125,000 and to top the 2012 penalty list.”

The second highest penalty was imposed against Skylite Building Maintenance Ltd for exposing workers to asbestos.

How far down the ladder is the farm vehicle from the Aquilini's? Makes good headlines but were they even personally aware that they own said vehicle? Considering how big their company is, I'd suggest more than a few people screwed up on this one before it would've even been brought to their attention. No excuse still. Just wonder how aware they would've been about this situation given middle management and such when dealing with thousands of dollars, when they're used to moving tens and hundreds of thousands around the desk routinely.

@RichardF_4221 The fine isn't based on their net worth. What's important to note is that Work Safe BC did their job right, and that people who continue to want deregulation and "less government red-tape" for the sake of a little more profit are held accountable.

Keep in mind that they also get an increase in their yearly rate when they get caught breaking the rules. It's not just this $125,000, their rate will jump at least a percentage point for next year, if not more... And that adds up quickly.

I guess my hockey tickets will be going up .10 cents per game to pay for this fine.
