Dix vows to revive Science World program

The leader of the BC NDP says his party will back a popular science education program cut by the BC Liberals, if it wins May's provincial election.

Adrian Dix says the one million dollar a year program for the awareness and learning of science, run by Science World, should never have been cut.

"The joy of learning and enjoying science and enjoying learning about science is something that I think everybody should enjoy in BC"

The Liberals cut the program in June.

Prior to that, it brought Science World exibits to 190 thousand kids in BC over seven years.

I hope the next leader of this province has more important news than this window dressing.

@MichaelD_10 you mean like your BCCP with all the great thoughts and hopes of it's leader of the day! You definitely are a drywaller,as you told me, that no union would hire! Go NDP Go

@MichaelD_10 It is worth noting that it is the business community which is unhappy with Family Day.

Restoring the ability of Science World to function as originally envisioned and built, would seem to benefit the families more than an ill-conceived holiday that essentially only caters to the resorts and the well-to-do. They are quite capable of looking after themselves.

Better to fund a venue that can be enjoyed at an affordable cost by ordinary families than creating a holiday that is costing small business dearly.

Better to spend $1 million over on something that can be enjoyed by ordinary families any day of the year.

It's a sad day indeed when government has to tell us how to stage family get togethers.

Judging from the border line-ups, it is clear that no one is listening to that message anyways.

    Science?
Isn't his something we already do in public schools?

so....... the NDP wants us to SUPPLEMENT a program that
    SHOULD be USER PAY???
But to get to work (or over one of the many water crossing highways and byways of regular road systems)
    - YOU must still PAY THE TROLLS a TOLL?
wHELL that sure sounds fair .......NOT!

GO AWAY NDP - GO AWAY!! and please take DIX with you........
Now I would PAY for that

@speakup The big question is what is being taught in our hollow public schools. After so many cuts I'm certain science is not something our students are learning.

You don't want NDP but you sure are not mentioning any other options. Look around, the Liberals have over stayed their welcome.

That's the most important thing he can come up with?

@Ron_26 I think next he is offereing FEE TOILET PAPER
      to all NDP supporters.
      Wipe on - Wipe off

Of course paid for by the ever loving BC TAX POOer

@bctaxpayer This is your classic NDP rebuttal. A little name calling and no substance.

@bctaxpayer Um...you say we all agree? Perhaps you don't read much. We do not all agree.

So , MR Dix - where is that money coming from ? What program are you going to cut ? Because you would t have the guts to tell the truth and say that the extra. Money will come from raising taxes would you ??

Or maybe you could be a real hero and tell us of the savings that are going to come by scaling back the benefit packages in the public sector to match those provided to workers in the private sector ????? No ???? Didn't think so, that wouldn't get you too many votes would it ??

Maybe they will go after the BC Rail Crooks for the 6 million and have funding for 6 years.
    1. commonsense posted on 02/11/2013 02:30 PM
@GlenP_2 And Dix will pay back his $70k severance for being fired after he admitted he forged a document. Yup...money for liars!

@GlenP_2 These Right winged Hoods of the Liberal/cons of the Coalition think stealing is only evil if it relates to the parties they don't like. They still want more, this just tells me one thing, they will support thieves and live in the outdated past and forget the corrupt Government of the past 12years.Go NDP Go

@KellyS_2296 Your my huckleberry. I agree Conservatives are the only, sad to say, reasonable choice. Other wise we are rewarding the government behavior we all dislike.
Having said that, every government in my life time has been incompetent and arguably corrupt. Why should the Conservatives be any different.

GlenP_2: I do not have the answer as to why Basi/Virk legal costs were paid by the taxpayers, but maybe you can answer this for me.

Dave Stupich, former NDP finance minister was found guilty for missing funds of over 1 million dollars. He was given 18 months house arrest and did not have to pay back the missing funds. His legal bills were paid for by the taxpayer.

Explain the differences if any between Stupich and Basi/Virk.

49% plus of the popular vote needed for NDP to form government but so little time left to accomplish this.

Has anybody ever thought that the best thing to happen is to have the Liberals and NDP both sitting in opposition status.
That what happened in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan party was formed and now they are already in their second term of government.

Wait till my friend Adrian, gets in. We are going to tax everyone making 36,000 per year or more. And give it to people like me. We are going to go from the lowest to highest taxed province in Canada. I believe and heard it should be a flat tax of 51% Then we can give it to all our supporters. HAHA
