BREAKING: Dhaliwal out as Liberal candidate in Surrey
SURREY/CKNW (AM980)

Sukh Dhaliwal is stepping aside as the BC Liberal Party candidate in Surrey-Panorama.

He'd been considered a star candidate for the Christy Clark Liberals...but he's also facing a string of tax evasion charges.

He was apparently notifed of the charges back in November, but only informed the party this week, once the story broke.

@ChrisM_18 That was a nice try.

If you compare the two situations, you should be able to figure out that Mr. Dix was not charged with anything that could have resulted in a fine or a jail term.

On the other hand, Mr Dhaliwal, if convicted by charges laid against him, could be jailed or fined a substantial amount.

But......It should be noted, however, that Mr. Dhaliwal is innocent unless he is convicted.

My perspective would appear to be far more balanced and fair.

It is too bad that some posts are based on personal bias and not on fact.

That said, Mr. Dhaliwal did the right thing by withdrawing as a candidate as others have done over the years.

@ChrisM_18 From what I understand of this story is that Mr. Dhaliwal is stepping down not that the Liberals booted him out. The Liberals were only reviewing the matter. Mr. Dhaliwal took it upon himself to step down to save grace for the Liberals in the riding.

Mr. Dhaiwal is not charged with tax fraud, he's charged failing to file returns, there is a substantial difference - it is wrong to suggest otherwise. Simply not filing a return is an offence likened to a driving offence, and nothing more.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want this type of person in government, but let's keep it in perspective!
