VSB won't lock school doors

In the wake of a recent shooting rampage at a Connecticut school, Trustees in Vancouver have voted to review local security measures.

Board Chair Patti Bacchus says safety is paramount, but they still want to ensure schools are a welcoming place.

She says a review now underway should be completed within a couple months.

Says Bacchus, "Essentially, the same motion, just a little more specific about when the report will come to ensure that it comes to committee... because we wanted to make sure that parents and employee groups who work in schools have an opportunity to provide feedback."

NPA Trustees are recommending restrictions which include locking most doors, but Bacchus says the Vision Vancouver-dominated Board prefers a 'less reactionary' approach.

I am so very glad I do not have any kids going to school here. Unlocked
doors so that any maniac can walk right in. How crazy is that. You can have a welcoming school just come through the main door with your I.D. ready.
The other doors are LOCKED! Vancouver you live in a dream world

Hope the VSB doesn't regret this decision if there is a dangerous intruder in one of their schools. As a teacher, I'd feel a lot more secure with locked doors.

@AldinaI So Vision people are terming the locking of doors reactive ! How about they consider doing something in a proactive manner ?

Typical of the gutless politicians we have had to endure in Canada - this bunch will wait until a trgedy occurs before they spring into action!
