The latest witness at the trial of a former BC ferry worker accused of causing the deaths of two people says numerous changes have been made since the 2006 sinking of the Queen of the North vessel.

Rory Green is a deck hand and junior officer who worked on the doomed ship.

He says the rules followed in March of 2006 were much more grey than they are today.

He says, "Things have changed so much. Now, we have to sign off on every little thing."

Having worked with the man on trial --Karl Lilgert-- Green says he was good at his job, but Green doesn't remember experiencing any technical problems while on the Queen of the North.

Lilgert is on trial for criminal negligence causing the deaths of two passengers.

I find it really interesting that before the sinking, no one complained about all of these so called "problems" that are now coming to light during this trial. Why would that be? Maybe because someone screwed up royally and sank a boat and are now back pedaling to cover their butt? Things that make you go hmmmm...

A mariner of any note will not just rely on electronic navigation aids but will use all senses and manual charts to confirm their navigation decisions.

I am still baffled on how this vessel was allowed to go off course.

@StephenG_3 You are telling me in an aircraft they are looking at all the manual charts to confirm their bombing run! With high tech machines in planes or ships ,tell me why do we spend so much money on them if they are unreliable Please the one of the great white wash, speak! Go NDP Go

A rather suitable answer for "they have told me to forget" does not wash here no pun intended.

What were to be reasonably expected of those on the bridge, just before and during this fatal mishap is extremely important.

It seems that preventing a mishap is not what the defense or Ferry Corp wants to come out as being the truth of the matter. Nor does what went of in the bridge as advanced by the Crown a suitable by defense lawyers it would seem at this juncture.

These folks have to take the stand, weather the force of the truth and explain what truly went on that fateful night on the Queen of the North.
