According to a report compiled by the Vancouver Police Department, violent crime has dropped in the city for the sixth year running.

In 2012, violent crime affected 9.58 out of a thousand people.

That's a 6.9 percent drop from 2011.

Since a high of 12.13 in 2006, the violent crime rate has dropped 16.6 percent since 2008.

During that period, homicides, attempted murders, assaults and robberies have all become less common.

Sexual offences are the only category of violent crime which has increased during that period, rising 1.5 percent since 2008.

The report will be presented to the Vancouver Police Board on Tuesday.

Do they just make up words and terminology to fit the needs?

Why don't I believe this ? Hmmm it must be that all the media outlets put out so much press about the few violent crimes that do occur that it gets all of us seniors paranoid ... that must be it

The police wouldn't massage the numbers would they ? Nah ...thats just conspiracy chatter

@ChrisM_18 I'm trying to figure out how they determine who has been "affected"?

I don`t buy it!! Also, if they want violent crimes down, sentencing has to go up and be firm. If people believe that when they commit a crime there if a definite sentence without bargaining with a judge.....they just might not commit the crime to begin with.

Hmm, interesting, lets see, just in the last week alone there was a triple homicide in Surrey, a few days later a shooting at a banquet hall in Richmond, a couple of stabbings in Langley, Yea, right, violent crime has gone down, Everyone can sleep better at night because the LIBERALS have everything under control and if you vote for them again everything will be ok !!!

These stats are JUST LIKE the public schools that DO NOT LIST ANY Bullying!

when something like what we ALL KNOW and can describe as actual Bullying happens in a public school...............
the administration (principal) transforms the situation into a blame/blame situation (well learned from ICBC)!
that way........ NO one is an actual statistical Bully and
NO BULLYING ever occurred on record under that awesome administration
so therefore the stats show - ITS ALL GOOD! Case closed!
