Demonstrators arrested at pipeline hearing
VANCOUVER/CKNW (AM980)

1/15/2013

Six people have been arrested after disrupting the National Energy Board hearings into the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline this morning.

They were wearing T-shirts with messages like "stop the pipelines" and used police tape to mark off the hearing area as a "climate crime scene".

Hearings into the pipeline proposal continue at the Sheraton Wall centre in downtown Vancouver.

@Ken280 Actually they were disrupting the hearing with loud whistles. Why doesn’t the “No” side want a conversation? All they do is come and disrupt the hearings preventing both sides from saying their bit.

Funny all of these kids look like they go to University, I wonder how they would feel if their Provincial tuition subsidy was cut due to lack of Provincial funds? Oh that is right, they would protest that as well. If you’re going to say no, provide a solution to the Provincial Deficit.

@Ken280 These are the same groups that are NO to mining, NO to forestry, No to the oil industry, NO to natural gas exploration NO new roads or bridges; but they want free tuition, free health care, free transit, free daycare and free ski passes. They don't seem to understand that Canada is an exporter of natural resources, whether it is coal, wheat, gold, lumber, CNG or oil. We need to get these products to market to pay for the social programs we have in Canada.
Please present an alternative solution to the Gateway project or shut-up. The quiet majority are getting fedup with the constant whining. We are busy trying to provide for our families and all these groups come out of the woodwork to blow whistles, bang drums and block traffic.

The problem with socialists, er, social democrats, like Ken280, is that their approach to every issue is based on envy, resentment and bitterness against those who do not share their "enlightened" views. This demonstration has nothing to do with voting, or democracy. It is the classic left wing tactic of shouting down your opposition with slogans. As someone who was in university in the 1960's, I saw this tactic first hand, where the so called advocated os freedom of speech took the position that those who did not share their views had no right to speak. That is when I walked away from the left and never returned.

Yes, Ken280, please offer a detailed plan for government to raise the money to pay for health care, pensions and all the other goodies that are seen by those on the left as rights. And when you do, cc Adrian Dix, who so far has come up with nothing.

@Jartann You are right. The NDP are petty and hate to see anyone make money.
I have always said that most governments in my time have been corrupt and incompetent. But the NDP are incompetent, corrupt and petty.
Did you see how the NDP got rid of Carrol James, even after she was reaffirmed as leader of the NDP in a party vote. Jenny Quon would have non of that and started the insurrection that ousted Carrol James.
Did you know that the new leader of the NDP Adrien Dix was caught riding the sky train in Vancouver with no ticket.

@Jartann we used to have thing to raise money for Health care pensions and all the other goodies… they were Called crown corporations there was four main ones BC gas BC rail BC ferries and the jewel of BC BC hydro the biggest money maker BC ever had… but today under the BC Liberals BC hydro lost 180 million dollars in the spring of 2012 alone no revenue coming in to help out with the tax burden that way. Now we have BC ferries. Well they only lost 16 million dollars in 2012 under the BC Liberals there again on revenue for BC there. Well that brings us to BC Gas and BC rail both sold off by the BC Liberals there again all revenue that would have been brought in to BSc coffers gone boy them Liberals sure know how to ruin a province
