A local organizer with the Idle No More movement says she is pleased Prime Minister Stephen Harper has agreed to meet with First Nations' leaders next Friday.

"It’s about time. Historically, we've learned that there's always purpose behind any agreements between the government and indigenous people."

Kat Norris, an organizer of an upcoming event in White Rock for the indigenous movement, says she hopes Harper is sincere about meeting with Chief Theresa Spence, who's been on a hunger strike since Dec.  11 in hopes of achieving such an event.

"It doesn't mean that there are going to be any changes. Until we know what the outcome is, we don't have much comfort. Although there is relief that he's finally going to meet with her. She'll finally be able to lead a normal life again."

Spence has already said she will continue her hunger strike until the meeting actually takes place.

I can not find any justification for the Prime Minister to meet with a Chief of a very small band, who is using extortion to do so. The PM should be working only with the Assembly of First Nations, to address First Nations issues. If a FN Band leader has a problem, then they should speak to the Crown Minister responsible.

@StephenG_3 All the FN people think they are FN Speical!
YET - They can't even get along with ALL the other FN Assemblies!

Harper should NEVER give into FN TERRORISM!
She should go to FN Jail for extortion!

Some hunger strike! If she was really on a hunger strike since December 11th she wouldn't have the strength to meet with anybody except a doctor.

I wonder if in the meeting she will dedicate to use some of her $280,000 tax free houshold income to help improve living conditions for those people she governs.

Interesting how this one percenter has gained the support of so many left wing politians, the media and Indians who are living in poverty while she is living high on the hog.

Hopefully Harper will tell her, and the rest of the Chiefs that having been pocketing the money that should have gone to all of the natives, where to get off

The Prime Minister should not meet with this woman. She needs to come clean with what she is spending the millions on. They not only get the treaty money they get oil royalties. These native bands need to be accountable for the money they get. How much money is enough. It is never enough no matter how much they get.
The only deal Harper should make with her is to get her to open the books and then they can talk.

    1. This is not a hunger strike. It is a solid food strike. Like most native leaders, she thinks we are all fools, like the media and most politicos.\

    2. Harper should refuse to meet with her until the circus is over. No end to "hunger strike" and "idle no more", no meeting. This is for adults, not children.
