Seismic upgrade approved for Granville Street bridge
VANCOUVER/CKNW (AM980)

12/21/2012

Vancouver City Council has approved a 5-point-6 million dollar seismic upgrade of the Granville Bridge.

Graham Construction and Engineering have the contract.

A special council meeting the morning unanmously voted to award the contract a month early to that firm, giving the contractors more time to prepare for construction.

The city says it will be working with Granville Island to make sure disruptions are minimized during the project.

I am not from the BIG VAN .....with shag carpets and no windows-
    but just wondering........

did this money miraculously appear out of thin air
much like the money from Township of Langley for their
    expansion of the useless LEC?

How do these councills do their approved budgets?
THEN- after the fact........'find' extra money NO ONE knew existed?
Did they do laundry and find extra cash in the deep pockets?
WOW - I think I better go do other people's laundry

I could be TOTALLY wrong......(about Van)
maybe this was already in their written public plans and approved?
    Do any Vancouverites know this?
I know Langley folks were in the dark about the extra FOUND money for LEC (after the fact)

@speakup Property tax increases were approved. It's the tax and spend model.

Wasn't Gregory just telling Ottawa what deplorable condition Vancouver's infrastructure is in ? Does he not consider water and sewer pipes important ? Or was he lying to Ottawa ??? Where does this money suddenly appear from ??

You have to go back to point one. Gregor served his apprenticeship under Carole James. Don't complain about Gregor. This is peanuts in comparison to what Adrian Dix will do with the B.C. taxpayer cheque book if the taxpayers give him that chance.
Remember, we cannot blame, Gregor, or Adrian. The City of Vancouver taxpayers and the B.C. taxpayers are to blame because of their voting patterns.
All voters have the final say. The real problem is that they do not know how to vote as a team.
Team work with taxpayers works excellent in Alberta. 41 years non stop of a Conservative provincial government.
In B.C. 20 years straight of a coalition government, 3 years of a NDP government, 16 years of a coaltion government, 10 years of a NDP government, and 12 years of a coalition government.
    One very mixed up province.
