ICBC sees spike in claims for Alex Fraser Bridge as well, possibly due to falling snow and ice

It wasn't just the Port Mann Bridge wrecking havoc with cars during wintery weather Wednesday.

"Ice bombs" falling from that bridge's support cables broke windshields, dented cars and sent two people to hospital.

Adam Grossman with ICBC confirms there are also around 20 claims involving the Alex Fraser Bridge.

"There's been some reports of similar incidents, of snow and ice on that bridge as well."

But Grossman says they don't have official confirmation falling snow and ice is the reasons for all the Alex Fraser claims.

@brianp1950 According to Saturday Vancouver Sun, driver claims to have been hit by falling ice just as he passed the CREST of the Alex Fraser Bridge. Probably true but where did it come from?

Clearly a bogus claim, if he blames it on the bridge. At the crest, meaning mid-span, the support cables are so close to the deck that ice could not possibly fall on a vehicle unless there was a cross wind of hurricane strength.

In my mind, the most likely source where ice could fall is at the two towers which have a cross beam tying them together as a stability measure.

Therefore, his claim of suffering damage, if not bogus, originated from a passing high vehicle such as a bus or container load or a semi. Those vehicles are frequently covered with ice and snow.

People should get real when they whine. In this case, they should check out if their srory is consistent with the laws of gravity. They should utilize their cognitive abilities.......

The fact that the Alex Fraser had the same proble shows this was a unique situation

@mikes_0736 [deleted] This isn't the first time on the Alex Fraser. It only shows the incompetence of the government and the contractor.

The builder has already admitted to cutting the costs by not accepting the advice of the cable provider and I doubt the builder would make this decision on his own. This is an attempt to shift the blame so that once again the Liberals look like they have everythng under control when the oppsite is true.

@brianp1950 Now imagine the new sea bus being built OVERSEAS -
      No Quality control whatsoever.....

      I can see it now......
"Oh you wanted it to FLOAT?"
Gee - we had that option offered
but we figured we did not really need it"

@brianp1950 I believe you are factually incorrect in what you have posted my friend.I have heard the company speak to this issue, and I heard nothing of the sort.I will accuse you of nothing, but your agenda is suspect.Perhaps instead of campaigning,we should talk to WA State. They have,or once had the same issue with a bridge down there. They may actually have,or be looking for a real solution.I think they are less prone to crying in their beers than we are in Canada.
