You buncha weenies! If kids stayed home every time it snowed in Prince George, they would only go to school for 3 months a year.

@Maestro Ive lived in the east kootenays myself, when snow season is october -may, I can agree with you on that one. Here, no one is really equipped for snow, cause it doesn't snow a lot. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather have parents not drive their kids to school in their vehicle with all season tires. There'd be a lot more deaths and accidents on the road if there wasn't school closers

@Maestro Easy Maestro. Apparently you've lived all your life where snow is present 9 months of the year. We get snow down here on average 3 days a year, so you gotta understand we just are not used to it like you are. Please do come visit when we get snow and you will be afraid. No matter how skilled you are at driving in the snow, you it won't mean squat cause all the drivers around you are not. =)

My cousin picked her kids up on their snowmobiles in PG when it snowed. Hardly an option in the Lower Mainland.

@lg_3045 I'm glad they closed today. Safety first for all students & teachers.

No wonder public school students do better in post-secondary. They're tough. Officials don't close public schools like they do private schools.

@AldinaI The thing about private schools is that they are regional schools. Multi-city schools if you will. If you look at Catholic secondary schools, there isn't one in each city and so many of them will be tri-city like and so on. They simply close it down since their students travel further on average and look out for their safety and well-being in the road travels.

Also, please show me that stat on public school students performing better in post-secondary. I would love to read that.

@AldinaI Glorified baby sitting, this is why they want the teachers at their expense to work overtime, to look after the students until the parents come to get them, around 6pm.

There are many students who travel cross-boundary and across the city to attend public schools.

Ask any university professor to tell the stats. It's a well-known fact.
    1. commonsense posted on 12/19/2012 02:35 PM
@AldinaI There are many students, but are there many schools?

I want your stat, please. If it's a well-known fact, then it should be readily available. So please share it.

@AldinaI A well-known fact? I think that's more a matter of opinion. Provide some evidence please.

It seems some of you do not read most of the closures are private schools or post education. Seems if the nanny is at home you can leave the kids. It's hard for working parents to leave the kids at home so to me it seems most public schools were open.
