The suspect involved in a standoff earlier this month with New Westminster police has died in hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office, which assumed control of the case after the man was shot Nov. 8, has confirmed he died Sunday night.

The man, believed to be have been armed with a handgun, was shot in the parking lot of the Starlight Casino following a nearly five-hour standoff.

His family has been notified, but his name has not been released.
 
Members of the IIO are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the now-fatal shooting.
