The Surrey Mountie killed in a crash with a semi-trailer truck early this morning has been identified as 28-year-old Constable Adrian Oliver.

Officers and civilians at Surrey detachment are crying, hugging, and wearing blue ribbons, to remember Oliver.

Deputy Commissioner Craig Callens says he came from a family of mounties, who are now flying in from ottawa to deal with his death.

"He showcased all the skills, dedication, and commitment that we expect of our members. He was a valued member here at Surrey detachment."

Police say Oliver was heading west on 64th Avenue this morning on the way back to the detachment at the end of his shift when his unmarked police cruiser collided with a semi-truck coming the other way at 148th Street.

The truck driver was not hurt.

No charges are being considered.

Of course he came from a family of mounties. That, along with women and minorities, is all the mounties will hire now. It doesn't matter how inept you are as long as you have a parent who was a Mountie, you are in.

@Specimen Yarp you really could have left that sentiment for another mountie story

@Specimen Yarp A family of Mounties, women, and minorities. Boy, you are batting 1000. It makes one wonder what back woods baboon like family are you from? I take that back, baboons are intelligent.
Perhaps you could reach down into that black hole you call a soul and find some compassion, regardless of creed, colour, or lineage, and acknowledge that another human being; one I might add would have come running to help you if you needed it, died today, tragically. May God bless you too!

It's too bad that people like Al$_2240 have to comment on such a sensitive issue, sounds like the mounties would not accept you as an applicant anb it is pretty obvious why!!

Having lost my son in a motor vehicle accident in 2007 while driving a Toyota Tundra I do feel the pain and loss of the Oliver family.

Conversely I also feel the pressure that the driver of the other vehicle, and his position as he must be looking at it.

A tragic loss beyond words of expression.

A terrible loss of a young man, who has parents and family as publicly put forth in the media today. I am truly sorry for their loss, and feel that some of the negative comments in the various public media venues are both cruel and unwarranted.

Conversely, what about the driver of the other vehicle, and his important feelings of what transpired today. What about the feelings of his family as they face this giant monster called the RCMP.

A true imbalance has been created by the RCMP manipulation of the media as I am sure this person never left home to participate in such a horrible event.

It might serve the media well to be more balanced in their reporting of such future incidents.
