Cities want more infrastructure dollars

The federal government has been asked to dedicate an extra two and a half billion dollars every year to municipal infrastructure improvements.

The request comes from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in a submission containing eight recommendations.

The key suggestion is to ensure funding is long term and predictable.

Others include building more transit to reduce traffic gridlock and developing more public-private partnerships.

Ottawa currently invests 3.25-billion dollars to municipal infrastructure.

This funding should come from the Bank of Canada as it can essentially fund money into the economy. Unlike private banks whom we now allow to print our money as debt which we will have to pay them back plus interest. Why we allow them to create our own money out of thin air and then charge us interest on it is beyond me. When banks loan out money that they create, they only create the principal on these loans. Yet somehow, we are expected to pay that back along with interest which does not exist. This is why we are having a global economic melt down. There is more money owing that what exists. It's a giant ponzi scheme that hardly anyone realizes is happening. Eventually all countries will go bankrupt and austerity will be ramped up while our resources and infrastructure is handed over to the banks.

Municipalities provide the majority of services - property taxes are insufficient . The Federal Government collects 2/3 of all tax dollars - what is done with those dollars? It's time to allocate them equitably to municipalities where the majority of taxpayers live.

@Garp Why are property taxes not sufficient? Could it be that Local Governments are wasting tax money on projects that really should not be, or on programs that are not really their responsibility?
Do we have too much government relative to available tax dollars?
