New $20 bills not working on Translink ticket machines

Transit riders won't be able to use new $20 polymer bills at some ticket machines this week.

Translink spokesperson Drew Snider says they have to roll out a software update so the machines recognize the new notes.

He says they faced similar problems when new toonies and loonies were released into circulation, and did have a work plan in place this time.

As for why the work wasn't done ahead of time?

“We weren't aware exactly when they were going to bring out the 20s. The announcement came on Wednesday, November 7th, when it was unveiled.  That was when we sent our people into action to get this done."

The release date of the polymer 20s was announced mid-October.

"We weren't aware exactly (etc etc) The announcment came Nov 7"
"The release date was announced mid-October"

Don't you think that at least one of these over educated, over payed clowns (sorry, not to bring circus clowns down to the LOW level of translink clowns) would have thought " gee wiz maybe we should start reprograming our ticket machines because we know it's coming. It's not like it was any kind of surprise.

They said the new bills would come out in the fall, and it has the Vimy Ridge Memorial on it. When did these geniuses think it would come out? No wonder transit is a mess.

Either the Bank of Canada failed to consult or Translink failed to take heed and modify their machines.

Given the Translink incompetence I think Translink is the failure as it is in everything they do.

Find out whose responsibility it was to have this prepared and cancel their bonus for the year. Bonuses for incompetence are not acceptable to taxpayers.
Filling Drew Snider with coffee and trotting him out to repeat his lines for the public is insulting to our intelligence and is a good example of another position that can be eliminated.

@SlimP_9860 I agree. Sometimes I wonder how spokespersons like Snider can sleep at night after blabbing the Translink pap all day long...

Oh, I forgot, they make a TON OF MONEY for whatever it is they are supposed to be doing.
