NDP health critic unimpressed with minister's response to Burnaby Hospital controversy
VANCOUVER/CKNW (AM980)

The NDP health critic is hitting out at BC Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid's response to a leaked document indicating Liberal partisanship on a committee that looked into the future of Burnaby Hospital.

Mike Farnworth isn't impressed with MacDiarmid's attempt to distance the Liberal government from documents which point to Liberal partisans hoping to use the issue of improving the hospital for political gain.

"The minister is trying to put a little bit of distance between herself and her predecessor and do some damage control."

Farnworth says the committee didn't just spring out of nowhere and had involvement from the provincial government.

He was speaking on The World Today Weekend with guest host Steve Darling.

Whether it is good or bad, nothing can make this man happy. The man was promoted to a key ministry as minister by Glen Clark at the the same time that Glen Clark was involved with a friend about applying for a casino licence. Told Mike Farnworth, that if he screwed up, he would be fired. Farnworth went to Chief of Staff, Adrian Dix, to discuss over the situation and thought something sounded fishy. Was told by Dix, it pays to know people in high places, and don't worry, just do as Clark says. Farnworth did give approval to the licence, later saying in court that he would have not given approval knowing the circumstances behind the North Burnaby Inn. Here we have a cabinet minister, now a opposition critic today, always blowing a gasket saying that B.C. Liberals never produce a business plan on their decisions. Farnworth, sure did not do any background checks on the North Burnaby Inn, but yet gives a licence. Don't preach if you don't practice it. I guess he listens to the pope. The pope talks about birth control but never practices it.

@joes_2868 Dufus, once again, take off your frickin blinders and quit living in the past. Your attempt to try and cover up the completely idiotic attempts to get reelected by the Liberals at all costs is a joke. You need to look at the present and the future and not try to cloud it with the past!

brianp: Check your spelling before submitting comments. Brian, you are still avoiding the issues big time and now is the time to come clean and put your agenda on the table. Firstly, why vote in a NDP government that will be voted out in May, 2017. You have to have your brains examined big time if you would think that the NDP would win in May, 2017. You still have not told the readers why you would not take back a former spouse from a previous divorce to re-create the nightmare but am willing to do it with government. Adrian Dix and Jim SinClair are avoiding their platforms, so be a jump ahead of them and answer the above questions. We have a right to know to consider in future if you are worth anything to keep your options open in the readers comments.

Joe. Most of these NDP faithful don't really know what the NDP stand for. Do you think they ever ask themselves why the only province in Canada to have an NDP government is about to give them the boot.
BC has one of the lowest tax rates in Canada. That will change under NDP.
The last time the NDP were in power contractors didn't get Gov't. Jobs if they weren't unionized. How fair is that. The NDP are all about unions. It will be Jim Sinclair running this province.

@RoseH_1028 BC has the lowest tax rates in Canada now that’s funny… the Drunk Gordo may have lowed income tax with his right hand but with his left hand he raised gas tax ever time . Then he and the BC Liberals brought in the carbon tax, along with the HST, and with some help from transLink to give BC the highest gas tax in Canada and in the lower mainland with drivers paying nearly .50 cents a liter in gas tax which is the highest gas tax in North America …now this is really funny.
      .
The last time the NDP were in power contractors didn't get Gov't. Jobs if they weren't unionized. The truth of the matter is a contractor under the NDP time in power had to have a proven track record not just being the lowest bidder along with being a big financial contributor to the political party in power like today… now this is a winner.
(The NDP are all about unions. It will be Jim Sinclair running this province). At least Sinclair is trying to keep jobs here in BC for BC’ers unlike the BC Liberals trying to bring in so called temporary foreign worker from China to work in a BC’s coal mine taking away BC jobs 200 of them just for starters … O by the why the NDP= the New Democratic Party

Certainly voting in the NDP is going to be a serious mistake for the Province - but in good conscience I could not vote for CC and the Liberals. The current version of the Liberals remind me of a corrupt dictatorship in a 3rd rate Banana republic . You know they are lying when their lips are moving

So what is a concerned voter to do ?

There was an article on this blog with a link to a site from the Nova Scotia Gov't. It had all the provinces listed and the prices of gas etc. And the various taxes. I am here to tell you my friend that BC was the lowest or the second lowest in Canada. It is fine to Rattle on about all the taxes we pay but are we over taxed compared to other provinces. I don't think so.
Having said that I am not happy about all these taxes we pay either. But I can tell you one thing for certain. Under the NDP we will be paying considerably more. They are the tax and spend party. That is what they do. Drive business away and cater to the unions. A leopard doesn't change his spots.
Why should Jim Sinclair have anything to say about running this province. Was he ever elected in provincial elections. Next you will say to give Susan Lambert her way and haqve her sit in on decision making which is what she wants.

Okay, let's tell it again. B.C. has a Liberal government. Nova Scotia has a NDP government. B.C. population, 4,606,455, Nova Scotia, 944,968. B.C. deficit $1,140,000,000, Nova Scotia $249,200,000. Debt per individual taxpayer, $247.48 in B.C., $263.71 in Nova Scotia. GDP ratio to debt in B.C., 26.2%, 34.8% in Nova Scotia. B.C. credit rating, AAA, Nova Scotia AA2. Personal income tax rates for brackets one, two, and three in B.C., 5.06%, 7.70%, 10.50%. Nova Scotia, 8.79%, 14.95%, 16.67%. B.C. minimum wage, $10.25 per hour, $10.00 in Nova Scotia. B.C. is a "HAVE" province with no additional funding from the Federal government in addition to standard transfers. Nova Scotia is a "HAVE NOT PROVINCE" and receives an additional $1.268 billion in addition to standard transfers. B.C. hydro rates in B.C. are the third lowest in Canada out of the ten provinces. Nova Scotia is the second highest in Canada. 750 KWH in B.C. costs $58.06 and 750KWH in Nova Scotia costs $104.88. Basic personal tax exemption for income tax is $11,088 in B.C. and $8,481 in Nova Scotia. HST in B.C. is 12% and 15% in Nova Scotia. B.C. small business tax is 2.5% and Nova Scotia is 4.5%. According to the polls taxpayers in Nova Scotia will be voting in a Liberal government and B.C. wants to pay more in services by putting in a NDP government. Both provinces go to voting in the spring of 2013.

The NDP is in the same classification as the "Soprano's" and the "Corleone's". Some of the past and current NDP MLA's that have run into trouble are Adrian Dix, MIke Farnworth, Glen Clark, Robert Strachen, Elizabeth Cull, Andrew Petter, Dave Stupich, Dave Zirnhelt, Carole James, Ujjal Dosanjh, Mike Harcourt, Bob Williams, Moe Sihota, Dave Barrett, Joy MacPhail, and Graham Lea. All of their blunders and scandals cost the taxpayers of B.C. a lot of money. The baggage is just too great to take a chance on. If you are willing to vote them in, then also take back your former spouse from a previous divorce to re-create the nightmare.

A little NDP medicine in Manitoba. Unions supplied election workers for 13 NDP candidates. The NDP campaign office paid the respective union the regular daily salary each worker would normally earn. The unions then kicked back the exact same amount as a "donation" so that the actual cost to the NDP campaign was zero.
The campaign agents for each candidate listed the workers as unpaid help-donations in kind, which are not eligible for a legislated 50 percent subsidy from the province. But the paperwork was first sent to a central auditor. There, the official election expense statements of the 13 campaigns were altered so that the union workers were listed as paid help.
The altered documents were returned to the official agents, who, seeing no changes to the bottom lines, signed them and sent them in to Elections Manitoba. The trick was that now the NDP would be re-imbursed from the public purse for half the expense of the union help. The audit found this out and all monies was returned. Maybe this will happen next spring with the B.C. NDP when Adrian brings in Brian Topp as campaign manager. He has a record of whitewashing documents when he was chief of staff in the former NDP Saskatchewan government.

Joe, was it you who posted the Nova Scotia Gov't link on here a while back. I did go and have a look. Too bad some of these bloggers wouldn't get some facts before spouting their rhetoric. You can really tell the intelligence of some with their "lieberals" etc. They need to come up with a new one as that is getting very old. The scary part of this is that they can vote. Lol

Adrian Dix is two faced. Adrian Dix criticizes the B.C. Liberal government for not mentioning about the HST in the 2009 B.C. provincial election campaign, yet Nova Scotians voted in their first NDP provincial government in 2009 and in the election campaign, the Nova Scotia NDP promised no tax increases. What happens? They increase the HST by 2%.
Adrian Dix criticizes the B.C. LIberal government about the online gambling, and yet in Manitoba, the NDP government is doing the same, as the NDP in Manitoba says it brings in additional revenue.
Adrian Dix criticizes over the possible sale of some government assets, while in Manitoba, the NDP government is doing the same. The BCTF takes sides with Adrian Dix and in Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia teachers federation requests that the Minister of Education resign because of budget funding. Adrian Dix complains about B.C. Ferry CEO David Hahn being paid over one million dollars in renumeration, yet in Nova Scotia the NDP is paying Nova Scotia power CEO Rob Bennett the same. His last pay raise was 23%.
Adrian Dix complains about B.C. hydro rates which are the third lowest in Canada, yet in Nova Scotia power increases the rate by 6% making it the second highest rates in Canada for hydro. 1000kwh of hydro costs $82.71 in B.C. and $136.23 in Nova Scotia.
Adrian Dix says freezing government employee wages isn't fair, yet the NDP Nova Scotia and Manitoba NDP governments are doing the same. Adrian Dix says the B.C. minimum wage could be higher yet it is the highest in the ten provinces along with Ontario.
Adrian complained when B.C. once had a training $6.00 wage, for new wage earners, separate from the minimum, but in Nova Scotia, the NDP has two minimum pay rates, one for experienced workers, and one for nonexperienced workers, in other words a training wage.
The NDP is Manitoba does not recognize Family Day and Rembembrance Day as statutory holidays, and the NDP in Nova Scotia does not recognize Family Day, Victoria Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Remembrance Day as statutory holidays.
I believe Adrian Dix is presently barking up the wrong tree, when everything he complains about is done with provincial NDP governments in Manitoba and Nova Scotia, although NDP Nova Scotia are headed to official opposition status as taxpayers have completed having their brains examined. Adrian Dix has said a big NO! to the EnBridge pipeline, and yet his buddy, Jim SinClair is dead silent on Adrian's announcement.
Could the alliance between these two be diminishing as Jim SinClair does believe in job creation. It's now time Adrian, taxpayers were not born yesterday, start using one face only.
Would be interesting to find out what make of vehicle Jim SinClair drives. If it is foreign, then he can explain to us why he was against B.C. ferries being built in Germany and against raw log export.

RoseH: Yes it was me and you are right, all complainers as well as the NDP caucus at $101,859 base salary do some research and reading facts before blowing gaskets, shooting from the hip, and spreading propaganda. Everyone has the right to criticize, but research must be done before getting hight blood pressure readings like Mike Farnworth.
