The installation of BC Hydro’s Smart Meters is wrapping up, but it seems people who keep refusing a meter may not have to face consequences for continually saying no.

Cindy Verschoor with the Smart Metering Program says Hydro will to work with customers who refuse meter installation by answering their questions and addressing concerns.

The program is set to wrap up at the end of the year, but Vershoor says they haven’t decided on consequences if customers still refuse to make the switch.

"There's no decision that's been made on sort of what will happen after that date so I can't really provide any details on that."

Verschoor says right now, about 4 percent of the Province’s  1.85 million customers are on a delay list for installation -- some because they don't want a meter, others for reasons like difficult access to their existing meter.

If their is no danger or risk why is BC Hydro and the Liebral government so worried about putting this matter up for public examination with out the liebral spin. Why are countries such as Denmark and USA ,Netherlands even Australia starting to call for removal because of safety concerns? Why did Ontario Government state that the smart meters have not delivered on any of the results they expected and are calling for removal and return to a safer technology?

The CBC hired an engineer to get the facts on the true story about smart meters in relation to radiation. The outcome was that the cell phone and smart meters are equal in radiation. Taxpayers want to complain about smart meters but yet won't throw their cell phones in the garbage. Extra high billing charges are all propaganda from the staff that read meter readings. As their jobs will become redundant, because of the new smart meters, it has been proven that they have handed in wrong meter readings to be billed to hydro customers. I now have my smart meter and my billings are still the same. People, how many of you go in for an xray for medical purposes. Same option, why do you get the xray done? Radiation exists in that too. Throw the cell phone in the garbage. Can't do that. Grow up!

@joes_2868 The higher readings are a fact, just look at everywhere in the world that have installed them, you sound more like a mouthpiece from Hydro than a customer, do research joes

@joes_2868 joes, a phone and a smart meter is twice the radiation. we can do without the meter. were you aware that they could have used wired smart meters?

Smart Meter is all about usage tracking.
The electric car is is the big thing; the government wants be able to charge you extra taxes on the electricity you use to charge your electric car (to pay for things like Translink).

@velcro You may be on the right track. Take a look at New Zealand - that's exactly what's happening.

There are many people who have smeters even though they tried to refuse. Hydro is not respecting peoples' requests and are allowing Corix to cut off covers, remove signs, trespass, threaten and bully their customers. Many people are seeing bills increasing 200% and more. People are having fires and damaged appliances, People are becoming ill. And data is being gathered and transmitted without permission. Further, the Energy Research Institute in the US reports insignificant energy savings due to meters. Why are we being forced to have them -- corporate greed and political games. Thanks, Hydro!

DanP: Now I know the race in life is along one and that it is only with yourself and that your chances in life are only at half mast and so is everyone else's. Now take a deep breath, stop shooting from the hip like Jim SinClair and Adrian Dix, go back and re-read my first comment. I NOW HAVE THE SMART METER AND MY BILLINGS ARE THE SAME!. I am a happy camper.

@joes_2868 I have a cardboard bridge that is for sale real cheap and a bargain. You could buy it with the savings from your smart meter.

USA has touted data meters from the start and people are still without power after a storm?

I don't know what every one is worred about. "THE TOWN DRUNK" said everything was just fine with them. And a good staunch "LIEBERAL" would not lie to the people they are working for, unless they forgot to take their med's in the morning. You have to remember that what he needs med's for runs in the family. Google him and his old man. A good man I can tell you. And when time of use billing starts (but don't worry, coleman was quoted after he got out of the donut shop, that they are not going to do that) that all you good LIEBERALS that live in little shoe box condos that can't make noise after eight o'clock at night and have to use the high price electric time. Don't start bitchin'. You sure deserve this. The normal people don't.

by: Oh yes the town drunk, NDP premier Dave Barrett, Mr. ICBC himself. I was coming back from holidays and was waiting for a flight to Victoria from the U.S. Waiting for the same flight was Premier Dave Barrett, so plastered out his mind, that he had trouble standing up. They were not going to let him on the plane. His wife pleaded with the staff, that she would take full responsbility for him on the plane. They let him on. Nice to see that when clearing customs in Victoria, B.C., the drunk himselft didnot receive any special treatment because he was our premier. Treated just like you and I.

HUGH F: Hugh, a man that would not take back a former spouse from a previous divorce to re-create the nightmare but willing to do it with government. How long is it now since you have been in hypnosis? You better find someone to knock you out of the hypnosis because you are voting for a government that will be voted out in May 2017. Just listen to the taxpayers of Nova Scotia.

miltw: Cardboard bridge, may did you mean cardboard fridge Excellent qualifications for a NDP MLA! You still have not read my original comments. My hydro bill is not any higher with the new smart meter. Now go back to your NDP song, "FOOLS RUSH IN" by Ricky Nelson.

@joes_2868 Quoting teenage love songs! How do you expect anyone to take you seriously? Your comments do more to move votes to the NDP than Christy Clark.

Garp: No way! You have to be a "FOOL" to vote in the NDP party for government when in May 2017, they would be voted out.

So I was thinking about the new BC Hydro smart meters and realized something. There are things they told us when they put them in. 4 of those are: They will only sync once a day, they will not be syncing with hydro for at least another year (from now), they will not cause our bills to go up and they will not be bringing in peak usage fees. Of those 4 I noticed some interesting real life facts. If you watch your meter it syncs every 30 seconds ( it says sync when it does it ), everybody I know that I have asked had there bill go up when they went in. mine went up 15 dollars a month for my small apartment and if you go to your account, you can look at your daily usage. That last means they they are on line already, or they couldn't show you that.
Looking at this do you really believe them when they say they won't be bringing in peak usage billing? Just saying.
