The standoff at the Starlight Casino in New Westminster is over.

New Westminster Police say the suspect is down.

Shortly before 11am, CKNW reporter Jordan Armstrong heard a loud "bang" come from the casino parking lot.

"From our location, where the media is, about half a kilometre at Queensborough landing, and in the past five minutes or so an ambulance has just raced away from the casino parking lot."

New Westminster Police Inspector Phil Eastwood:

"The situation has progressed. You heard what may be was obviously the sound of a weapon a little while ago. The male is down. I don't know his condition at the moment in terms of his health, or how injured he was, or how the injury occured. We have had the ambulance roll by so the ambulance is attending now".

This brings to an end a five hour standoff which started just before six o' clock this morning.

The gunman arrived with a woman in the parking lot of the Starlight Casino.

She was quickly taken away by police and she is not injured.

Traffic is now getting back to normal.

A difficult job well done by the New Westminster Police. All police members got to go home to their families as well.

Lets face it traffic would have been an issue if the road had not been closed as motorist hammer their brakes to rubber neck at an unfortunate event.
