Mayor of Langley city wants a shot at provincial politics

The Mayor of Langley city is trying to play coy but the cat is out of the bag and he will soon announce a jump into provincial politics.

Peter Fassbender say if you are a betting person you will put two and two together ahead of his announcement tomorrow in the riding of Surrey Fleetwood.

Fassbender admits he doesn't live in the riding but feels he can win it away from the NDP.

"I believe that it is a riding that can be won by the BC Liberals again i think that the people in that riding need a very clear choice and I believe that it is a riding that can be won by the BC Liberals who are going to form the next government."

If he takes the riding, Langley city will be out a mayor.

"I am not a person who is going to try and wear a mayors hat and an MLA's hat I will make the appropriate decisions as the future unfolds but you know as I said I think that riding is one that can be won."

The official announcement will be made tomorrow morning at 8:15.

The riding is held by NDP MLA Jagrup Brar.

    giving the house away to the rcmp wasnt enough for him wanting to sighn off on the deal before everthing was known and now the municipalities are on the hook

    If ever you thought this guy was a bit loopy - now you know for sure. If he had been around with General Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn- he would have probably volunteered to one of the riders right at the front !

      @CosmicS This guy has no chance of winning It's like jumping onto a fast sinking ship with just the rudder showing above water. His career with the BC lie beral will indeed be a Very short one,similar to Risky Clark's.

    Mayor Fassbender; the same mayor who negotiated the RCMP contract. The same mayor who wants to increase sales tax to fund Translink. .......ENOUGH SAID!!!!!!

    What, nothing left to screw up in the Langleys Mr. Fastspender? you and your spending habiits will fit in well with the Liberals, good luck with that.

    Also according to the Vancouver Sun, Mr. Fassbender is not climbing onto any ladders; nor is he jumping from one ladder to another.

    However, more appropriate metaphors to explain his new-found and strange ambitions might include:

    "Jumping onto a sinking ship" and "Jumping from the frying pan into the fire" come to mind.

    Mr. Fassbender, as an observer to the BC-RCMP negotiations, did not look after the interests of the municipalities. When it came to Translink, he acted more as an apologist for the province. So, it is no wonder where his ambitions lie.

    Unfortunately for Metro Vancouver, Mr. Fassbender is not giving up his mayority unless he wins Surrey-Fleetwood. So, it is stuck with him.

    Tomorrow at 8:16 - he shuld be FIRED and ALL his pension, beneifts and any mayoral PERKS shoudl be taken away from this jerk and he should be made to PAYBACk (pro-ratred) all costs of him leaving to the Langley City!
    AND he should be IMMEDIATELY removed from any and all TranSTINK crap

    Why do they allow anyone to run in a riding they do not even live in?
    Look at Mary Pollack?
    Just becasue he figures he can beat some other loser........

    This guy is a nutjob - and should be OUT OF A JOB - unless it is flipping burgers........he would look best in a hair net!

    Have to respect a man for wanting to take a shot at something but he should remember that all shots are returned. All well and good to take a shot but one should really pick a cause with a chance of coming out a winner.

    Kinda like the little bighorn reference here by ChrisM_18.
