Environment Minister Terry Lake is downplaying environmental concerns over the liquid natural gas industry.

Lake says the government is still committed to a 33 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, the same year it hopes to see five L-N-G plants in operation.

"So yeah I remain optimistic i think it's been shown that British Columbia is good at doing this kind of stuff, we will work towards those targets and of course I think we've got a lot of time to work with industry, develop models that will mitigate the greenhouse gases that are produced in this process."

The government has already said natural gas used to generate power for L-N-G plants will be considered a "clean energy", but it's not clear how that will affect the emissions targets.

So I do have to ask the question. It's about GLOW BULL SH*T WARMING.
The earth has gone through at least five major ice ages. We are still coming out of the last one. Why did it happen?? We know for sure that al gore wasn't in one of his mansions with the heat turned way up, or out driving around in his fleet of SUV's going to get togethers to tell the sheep that the sky is falling. It's the same reason that Mars goes up and down just about the same that the earth does. Not the same temperature, but the same ratio. It's on a NASA web site..If you want to see how the earth has done you can not go back just one or two thousand years. One or two billion will start to paint a picture. Come on go green nuts. What do you say about this???????????????

@BY_7463 I dont know about that I was on Baffin Island last summer it reached 35 degree C and they had a glacier in Greenland filled the waterways with ice that was 10,000 years old. The polar Ice cap reduced by 35%. Having seen that for myself I say the deniers are full of BS.

It doesn't matter who governs next.I think making those goals by 2020 will be huge challenge.Maybe next to impossible, since BOTH parties are supporting the LNG exports, and those facilities will use a lot of energy.
That said,BC has done something. In tough economic times It is difficult for me to believe that taxpayers should get hit for even more at the very time when they are already struggling. And one thing seems certain, not building anything, any more is a poor way to generate the revenue that pay for most of what we take for granted. If a stronger economy is what we all want,we could probably make a good case for lower energy prices in this province. That would help build the economy, which in turn would make more revenue to build more clean energy sources.Higher costs on any of us in the absence of wages and profits that keep up with inflation will serve all of us very poorly. And that assumes that the global worming crowd has it right.A recently leaked document from the UN states that "the sun may be more responsible for global warming than previously thought" With that can any of us novices know for sure.

I never said that is was human caused however anecdotally If you put a fire in a room it heats up if you put a billion cars on the plant and heat 4 billion homes how can it not have an effect?
