In the wake of the Pope's unexpected announcement that he is resigned February 28th, parishoners at Vancouver's Holy Rosary Cathedral are suprised, but understanding of the 85-year-old's decision.
Ruby Largo says given the pressures of the modern age, she respects the Pope's decision to step down.
She says she is "disappointed but if he really feels that he's not capable anymore of being in such a position, then maybe it would a good thing for him to resign."
Largo also says she is would be open to the election of a younger pope next time around.
Vancouver Archbishop J. Michael Miller has reacted to the pope's resignation announcement.
He says he was shocked and saddened by the news, but he also understand's the Pope's decison and respects it.
