Some Vancouver Community Centres are not giving up their fight against the City's Park Board plan to centralizing surplus funding.

Hillcrest Community Association is holding a special community meeting on the decision Monday, and have invited the entire park board.

Association Chair Jesse Johl says the plan to spread revenue to community centres in less affluent neighborhoods will cause hardships to their facility near Queen Elizabeth Park.

"Programs and services would be cut, fees would go up, access would be restricted."

Johl blames the board's for underfunding at a handful of community centres, claiming they have cut the budget consistently over the last four years.

The board voted the plan in Tuesday following a nine hour meeting.

Johl says community centres across the city have gathered an undisclosed amount of money to fight the new regulations and are arranging public meetings on the issue weekly.

The only avenue left to fight the Park Board is the next election

As an overall rule there is a pretty simple way to avoid this kind of tax the rich mentality - don't vote for a left wing group at any level

Don't give up folks. If you do,they will come back for the very shirts on your backs. These morons want to take away the work that your volunteers do and give it to their union friends. It is a sad day in BC when people cannot volunteer in their comunities,ad keep the benefits of those noble efforts in their communities. This will kill volunteerism for us all.No one is going to volunteer to work their butts off in their communities just so outsiders can come in a confiscate the rewards of their efforts.
I am in Surrey,so I doubt I can help. But I will keep supporting you on line as long as you keep up the fight. You ARE on the right side of this debate.

@DougB_25 This is blatant robbery. Why would anyone volunteer.
Classic NDP wealth redistribution. But don't worry BC is rich we will be able to raise taxes to pay the union workers that will be needed to replace the volunteers.
