Changes are coming to BC's archaic liqour laws just months before the next provincial election.

Minister responsible Rich Coleman unveiled the first change today but promised more will be coming soon.

"Stay tuned within the next number of days actually you might see some things there is a couple little I's and T's have got dotted and all of the things I said I am going to  try and accomplish should be accomplished very shortly."

As for what changes might be coming, Vice President of the Canadian Restaurant and Food Service Association Mark Von Schellwitz says changing the liqour pricing model is his number one wish.

"Our members could actually get wholesale pricing because we pay amongst the highest liquor prices in the world here."

Coleman announced today catering companies will have a new license allowing them to buy, and serve liquor for events.

Sure Rich, allow more to be charged before the over served leave in their vehicles to be victimized by your governments impoundment laws and faulty breath test devices.

Yes the government gets you both coming and going it seems.

Interesting that the Restaurant Association rep is now complaining about high wholesale liquor prices. Yet, a few months ago these same people were worried that the system would be privatized and there would be, in their words, "chaos" in the system. So which is it: higher priced stability, or so called, or lower priced chaos because distributors would have to compete. There is, after all, no central government distribution of food to grocery stores, and we would starve if there was.

I have favoured the complete privatization of this because it makes no sense at all that government can pay top dollar in wages and benefits, and yet offer alcohol at lower prices. Something does tie together.

@Jartann It will be interesting to see if the restaurants lower their drink prices if in fact they get better pricing from the government.

Just like when they brought in the HST we were supposed to see lower overall prices - it just never happened.
