The family of a man murdered by his cellmate at a medium-security prison in the Fraser Valley is losing hope serial killers will soon be barred from sharing sleeping quarters.

"Now, it's up to the government to follow through."

Lawyer Myer Rabin speaks for the mother of Jeremy Phillips.

The 33-year old was murdered in 2010 at Agassiz’s Mountain Institute by a dangerous offender who'd killed before.

"That larger problem is the fact that the government policy is to send more people to jails for minor offences, which is going to clog the jail system."

In October, a coroner's jury suggested private cells for serial killers, but the Correctional Service of Canada is not bound to comply.

Phillips was weeks from completing his sentence when he was strangled by Michael McGray.

The attitude that sending people to jail for committing offences is a problem escapes me !!
How about the attitude that there is punishment for criminal behaviour - and if you don't want to spend time in jail then don't commit a crime ?

@ChrisM_18 You have a good point. Prisons are not supposed to be Hotels, however, I think that many think that way and that every prisoner has a 'right'

You two crack me up, the government should exercise the proper
"due care and dilligence" in the classification of inmates.

The reason why is so people are able to do their time and get back into society and be productive.

Your answers are very shallow at best.

I ask you why more RCMP members are not incarcerated for their special crimes and transgressions against society?

"due care and dilligence" in the classification of inmates.

People should be able to do their time without being exposed to the predatory inmate population.

Some folks who post here are very shallow in their exposure to life.

Some folks who post here take themselves a little to seriously . Their arrogance detracts from their insults .
