Auditor General gets to stay on

It looks like BC'S Auditor-General may get to keep his job for another two years.

That is, if he wants it.

After much debate and controversy, an all-party committee of the legislature has changed its mind and voted unanimously to offer John Doyle another two years on the job once his current six year term expires in the spring.

No reasons are given for the decision, which was quietly posted on the legislative assembly website.

But the committee was publicly roasted after deciding to end Doyle's appointment and conduct a national search for his replacement.

Premier Christy Clark then announced last week she wanted to extend the terms for auditors to eight years, and suggested the committee offer Doyle an extra two years.

If he accepts the new offer, Doyle would be on the job until October of 2015.

@taxed to death Mr. Doyle will be kept very busy if the New Depression Party are elected in May. All the lefties will be getting in line for all the plush NDP government job postings.

Christy's more than happy to capitulate, as long as she thinks it'll get her some votes.

So, under what conditions would the A/G not be reappointed? After all, at any time any government could be accused of wanting to replace the A/G because they don't like his/her reports. And, it will get much more difficult if the loopy idea Adrian Dix has is implemented-he is proposing that the A/G aprove expenditures prior to their being made. Which, by the way, puts the A/G in a conflict of interest, because he/she will be asked to pass judgement on decisions he made in connection with expenditures and other inititatives sent to him/her for approval. In the private sector, auditors are not permitted to pass an opinion on work they participated in.

So, either we go to a fixed non renewable term, or we have the A/G (unelected) who will de facto have more power than elected people, and who cannot be removed as a practical matter without the appearance of political interference.

This is what happens when people don't think things through.

FredB_7066: Nowhere near the 8 million blunders Adrian Dix will make if he is given the taxpayer's cheque book until being voted out in 2017.

Just ask Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home!

@joes_2868 joes seems to me you attack with nothing but name calling and assumptions.
you do not know what will happen when and if the ndp win the next election,
you always attack ken. but your words are always the same.

Fredb_7066: Not once has your buddy, Ken280, the readers consultant with a briefcase 50 miles away from home has never once backed up his comments with any data.

Now Fred, it is your turn!

Tell the readers with all of your honesty, why you would never take back a former spouse from a previous divorce but am willing to do it with government?

Fred, you know for a fact, that if the Liberals have to go, the NDP is not the answer. Create a political party.

Tell the readers why when it comes to your hip pocket, you use consumer affairs on everything you purchase, but will not do consumer affairs on the NDP.

Fred, you have a major problem of living a double standard of life. Have you thought of maybe practicing what you preach?

The extension of Mr. Doyle's employment is merely a prayer for votes. The gov's initial decision was ANOTHER Triple "A" Grade boner. If the public told the Liberals to go jump in a lake, they'd say, which one, if it got them a vote or 2.
And to all the goofs above me, bringing Dix into the converstion, where was he mentioned in the news article? You Liberal slanted listeners/readers are working yourself into a frenzy with the thought of a change, for absolutely no reason whatsoever. If anything, you will see more honesty, logic, and less corruptness playing rough house football rules they invent along the way. Coleman is a poor excuse for a quarterback.

Hey RegA re: "If anything, you will see more honesty," really??? From Dix? How can you make a comment like that when everyone knows Dix has proven he is morally deficit? He has, and will again, say anything for personal gain - or have you conveniently forgotton his past indiscretions to suit your own mandate?

@sk8tr40 That is like saying YOU never got your keester smacked for swiping a jaw breaker off the candy counter at Kresges on Columbia Styreet in New West. Dix is obviously not the man he was. Neither are you, Bonzo. I am listening to Doyle as I type, and this government and it's system MUST go! So, wake up sk whatever you are, and quit phillerbusting for the crooked bloody liberals. Get you head out of your anal canal!

I think we need to forget all this BS put forward by media to discredit the Conservatives. These reports were just some extra bag men working for the princes of commerce trying to save (the princes of commerce) some money by not having to pay for conservatives election campaigns. Because if the Conservatives do form the next government and the princes of commerce did not donate, They (the prices of commerce) would have no influence.
