Premier Christy Clark says Vancouver has been named to host the "Times of India Film Awards".

Events will be held across Metro Vancouver April fourth to sixth.

Clark says vancouver will be centre stage for an event that will be seen by hundreds of millions of people in one of the worlds fastest growing economies.

A government release says the immediate economic benefit of hosting the film festival is in the neighborhood of 13 to 18 million dollars.

The cost of hosting the event is 12 million dollars.

While the Premier defends spending millions of tax dollars to draw more business from Bollywood to BC, she's not apologizing for saying "no" to more tax breaks for the local film industry.

"We want it to be about trade. Introducing British Columbia to hundreds of millions of people in India."

Christy Clark says BC's film industry already gets nearly 300-million dollars worth of tax incentives and this latest announcement has already been fruitful.

"One Bollywood production will come to BC, use BC suppliers, so at the same time that we're trying to make our province attractive from a tax perspective, we're also using events like this to try and bring more productions to our province."

Film industry insiders continue to insist bc is no longer competitive with other provinces, including Ontario.
Several film industry insiders are attending a town hall meeting tonight in North Vancouver to talk strategy.

Excellent revenue for the B.C. taxpayers, from the sales tax collection and more hours of work for the workers employed.

So let's get this straight according to the NDP supporters:

No Chinese workers welcome in BC
No Bollywood India films welcome in BC
Investment of any sort that is foreign based is not welcome in BC

Wow, was a literate crowd. No wonder BC went teets up under the NDP gov. last go around.

12 years of Liberal Rule, only 5 balanced budgets, balanced by robbing BC Hydro of money they don't have and money we'll only have to pay down the road, balanced through the now defunct HST.

No money to help the local film industry to compete, deficit almost $90 billion.

$15 million on partisan political advertising yet the cupboards are bare, now we have another $12 million on the "Times of India Film Awards".

But can't afford $900,000.00 to keep the Kitsilano Coast Guard Base open.

Giving raises to public sector unions in an effort to buy more votes and then asking school boards and health authorities to come with the money to pay for them.

And although the tax break we received way back when was well received, the provincial revenue stream is now so dependent on the commodity market that revenues disappear when the market slows down.

We pay more through the carbon tax, MSP premiums, user fees and what not and the budget is going to miraculously be balanced in February even though they were just a short time ago telling us there is no money to be had anywhere and we were facing an almost $2billion deficit.

How can we continue to support such a ridiculous government as this one?

WizardOron: Are you sugesting that the provincial government of B.C. take over responsiblity of the Kitsilano Coast Guard base?
Currently, it comes under Federal government jurisdiction.
Please explain what you mean to the reading audience.

HedgeH: The public won't see a single cent. What do you call the 7% PST, 10% liquor tax, and 10% room tax called. This is money that is collected by B.C. business for remittance to the taxpayers of B.C. via the government.

@bctaxpayer ad's means ad is or belonging to an ad. More often the former. You mean to say ads, as in more than one ad. Taxpayer's means taxpayer is or belonging to the taxpayer, more often the latter. You mean to say taxpayers. You say we can read through you, but after seeing your many typos I question your reading.
