A former teacher in the Vancouver Island north school district has been charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.

The charges against Joseph Oullette were approved by crown counsel last week, seven months after RCMP raided the 45-year old's home in Port McNeill.

Mounties add there's no evidence to suggest any local children were victimized.

Oullette is out of custody until his next court appearance Tuesday.

He's ordered to stay away from children under the age of 14.
