Crown wanted tougher sentences than those handed to two Stanley Cup rioters -- and now, it's going after them.

Crown has filed for permission to appeal the sentences of Alexander Peepre and Lincoln Kennedy-Williams.

Peepre was considered one of the instigators of the riot and last month, was handed 60 days in jail to be served on weekends, and 15 months probation.

Lincoln Kennedy-Williams was sentenced to 90 days in jail to be served on weekends and 15 months probation.

Crown had wanted 9 months in jail for Peepre and 6 months for Kennedy-Williams.

A tentative hearing date is set for November 29th.

Crown adds it reviewed the cases of Camille Cacnio and Sean Burkett, but decided it is unlikely an appeal court would vary the sentences and impose something harsher.

These riot cases have gone on far too long. Crown should save their resources and focus on all the other serious crimes that keep getting put over and then thrown out. Some extremely violent offenders (toward women and children) are waiting in line for trial and should most definitely be dealt with immediately!

@HedgeH I don't see this as a waste of money or time. The crown - and the public - are entitled to know what the sentencing consequences are from an authoritative court. Once the court provides that direction, lower courts have guidance and certainty as to sentences they will impose. This is important, and I support the appeal.

PS. I'm not diminishing the need for speedy trials of other offenders. That could be accomplished if new judges were appointed. Yes people it costs money to run the justice system.

I'm happy to see the Crown fighting back but this is really dragging on way too long. Just fine them all, and throw those in jail / work camps who can't pay for their damage to society
