Langley Mounties are trying to find the owners of some rare coins.

In August, officers out on patrol recognized a man they knew was not allowed to drive, and he and a passenger were in a Ford that had licence plates from another car.

While searching the vehicle, police discovered a backpack filled with coins from countries such as Norway, Sweden, Mexico and Aruba.

The coins are believed to be stolen.

Many are Canadian, including a millennial coin and a 50 cent piece featuring a pelican.
