Contract talks broke off in June and since then the union has conducted four one-day strikes and implemented an overtime ban.

The union represents 25-thousand provincial government employees.

B.C. government has offered 2% in the first year and 1.5% in the second year of a two year contract. The BCGEU wants 3.5% in the first year and a cost of living in the second year. Manitoba has a NDP government. They signed a four year contract with the union from 2011 to 2014. 0% in 2011, 0% in 2012, 2.7% in 2013, and 2.7% in 2014. Ontario is definite 0% offer for up to 3 years. Nova Scotia has a NDP government. The government forced a two year contract on the union through legislation because the union was not using common sense in troubled times. The government mandated a 1% increase in 2010, and a 1% increase in 2011. The talks are now on again for 2012 onwards. B.C., Ontario, and Nova Scotia are all in contract talks. Government workers are so demanding forgetting that it is the taxpayers that are the employer. Most government workers never collect EI in their working career whereas taxpayers in the private sector always at one time or another have to make a EI claim.

@joes_2868 What's wrong with asking for a cost of living increase each year?
That should be at least 2%.
Compared to the 0% raises received in the past 3 or 4 years.
