Tragedy on the Coquihalla Highway Friday night.

Three people were killed after the vehicle they were in rolled over.

Cpl. Kathleen Thain with Logan Lake RCMP says it happened shortly after 7:30 between Merritt and Kamloops, about five kilometres south of the Highway 97D Interchange.

Thain says two other people in the vehicle were taken to hospital - they remain in stable condition.

The cause of the crash isn't yet known.

"We're not looking into alcohol at all, and it's unknown at this time if speed was a factor."

Two of the dead - a 49-year old man and 61-year-old woman - were from New Westminster, while the third victim was a 41-year-old man from Surrey.

Their names haven't been released.

There is a debate out there that the speed should be raised on this highway.

I am sorry for the loss of these families...........
