Richard Walton on Port Mann Bridge tolls
VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980)

There have long been calls to not only toll the new Port Mann Bridge, but other structures across the region to make it fair and equitable.
"No way" says the Chair of the Translink Mayor's Council.
Richard Walton is also North Vancouver District Mayor.
He says tolling all structures "doesn't make any sense."

"If the intent is to try and share the cost throughout the region through development of new infrastructure, I think you need to do it by developing some kind of broad and fair road pricing or distant pricing model."

Walton also doesn't believe the Sea to Sky Highway should be tolled - because he says there's no alternate route.

Oh this takes the cake! This asswipe should be FIRED!!!! He's basically saying "Not in my back yard" But it's ok for the less fortunate! What a joke! All bridges leading to North Van should be tolled at a rate of 15$ per car! idiot!

Richard Walton needs to go!!! If the Lions Gate needs to be replaced in 5 years, 10 years or 20 years, will the north shore residents be happy with a toll on that bridge??? We all know gas taxes don't work everyone avoids Gas in Metro Vancouver and goes across the border, it make's no sense taxing anything Metro Vancouver residents can get cheaper with a quick drive to the States. Scrap gas taxes and Toll the Major Crossings with a small fee or get rid of all tolls and add a fair amount to our ICBC insurance, it's equitable and you keep money in BC.

@FairTollsforBC Tolls need to be implemented on all bridges and Sea-to-Sky. Not as a money grab, but as a present and future maintenance program. This should not go into general revenue, but a special tolls only account that is dedicated to improvements on these routes.

Tolls are a joke. Why should we be paying a toll on a bridge thats already paid for? Makes no sense and becomes a cash cow that government will use as general revenue ....does he carbon tax ring a bell? (gone to general revenue). Governments need to be financially respnsible with our taxes and be saving & planning for future road expansion. Further it should be a user paid fee, it the user thats taking advantage of the roadway/new bridge.
