If you have spent any amount of time listening to this show you likely know I am not a fan of the separated bike lanes. I think asking the public’s opinion on what to do with the viaducts is a colossal waste of time. You likely also know I think chickens in backyards in the city is a stupid idea, mainly because that plan came with a 20,000 dollar commitment to create a shelter for abandoned, homeless chickens. I grew up on a farm where chickens are supposed to live. We already have a homeless shelter for abandoned chickens – it’s called the abattoir.
I don’t care if I live in the greenest city in the world. I certainly don’t want my property taxes to go up to make that happen. I think the Occupy camp should have been shut down a lot sooner than it was, and while I ... |
Televise the Riot Trials? Maybe Try Laying Charges First.

It was an odd item to be in a throne speech, the call or ‘promise’ from the Premier to have any trials relating to the Vancouver Riot in June televised.
Is that really a priority in BC? Does anyone really think it’s necessary?
If you really want to use cameras to open up the process that is the follow up to the Stanley Cup Riot here’s an idea, why not televise the police investigation?
The promise to televise the trials is just talk anyway. The order has been made to the crown to push for it but it’s still up to individual judges to decide whether or not cameras are welcome in their courtrooms. I’m guessing there isn’t a huge push from the judges to make it happen.’
And can someone please explain again, how exactly would this make the court system work better?
The only people who think court ...

Following the June 15th riot in Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu used the word transparency when talking about dealings to do with the riot. IN fact, he said he wanted to make sure the VPD was transparent throughout the entire process. Fast Forward to this past weekend and the chief refused to answer a few simple questions from CKNW Reporter James Lewis. The questions had to do with a memo sent out by the Police department last week. The memo, called ‘Get the Facts Straight’ didn’t have a name attributed to it. It simply came from the ‘VPD Media Liaison’.
Lewis asked Chu who wrote the memo. Chu offered up some lame response that he sees some memos that go out but doesn’t see them all. Lewis asked him if he wrote the memo in question. Chu avoided the question. More than that, he refused to answer it.

The Conservatives Get Tough on Crime. So Why Don't We Feel Any Safer?

The Conservative Government is expected to pass its sweeping crime bill soon. The promise was it would be done within the first one hundred days in office. It can pass the bill now because it is a majority government. As a minority government there were parts of the bill the opposition didn’t agree with. There is no stopping it now.
Stephen Skurka, a Toronto based criminal defense lawyer was quoted in the National Post on Saturday saying, “This bundle of crime legislation represents the most comprehensive agenda for crime reform since the Criminal Code was introduced.”
Do you feel safer knowing this legislation is about to be passed? Are you in favour of the changes being made? Is fighting crime a priority for you? Did you vote Conservative because you want these tougher crime rules?
There are parts of the bill I agree with. But there are many, many parts ...
