David Pratt - Tuesday May 21 - Hour 1

7:05 – 7:10
OPEN / THE RANT / SPORTSACTION

THE RANT: When it comes to an NHL team’s survival in the playoffs, it boils down to good coaching. Some teams have great coaches, and others aren’t as lucky. As Dave says, the NHL should announce the coach of the year nominees after the postseason as opposed to before, because only in the playoffs do you see the real exceptional coaches rise to the occasion.

SportsAction: Pick two teams. They win, you win. The Senators picked up their first win of the series against the Penguins over the weekend, but Dave isn’t counting on them to take tomorrow’s affair. In the NBA, the Heat boast the best home record, while the Pacers were two games under .500 on the road. Take Miami for the easy win.

David Pratt - Friday May 18 -Hour 1

7:05 – 7:10
OPEN / THE RANT / SPORTSACTION

THE RANT: Is it any coincidence that the last four Stanley Cup champions are still in the playoffs? According to Dave, the one common denominator between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, and Los Angeles Kings is goaltending. All four winning ‘tenders played an extensive role in their teams’ wins, and when it comes to picking a winner this year, it’ll once again be a big factor.

SportsAction: Pick two teams. They win, you win. The Western Conference semi-final between Chicago and Detroit shifts to Hockeytown, but Dave doesn’t think that’ll slow down the ‘Hawks. He does, however, think home ice will work in favour of the San Jose Sharks when they take on the Kings tomorrow from the Tank.

DAVE’S OPEN LINE

The lines will be open and Dave has a number of topics he has to get off his chest. First, are the Vancouver Whitecaps turning their season around? When it comes to the NHL coach of the year, is it Ottawa’s Paul MacLean without a shadow of a doubt? And is the final four of the NHL postseason going to feature the last four Stanley Cup champions? Dave will take calls, tweets, and e-mails to hear your thoughts.

WHITECAPS VS. TIMBERS PREVIEW

Fresh off a favourable tie against the Montreal Impact at the Amway Canadian Championships, the Vancouver Whitecaps are hoping to build off that momentum with a home date against the Portland Timbers. The ‘Caps have never defeated the Timbers, but up until last week they had never won versus the defending champion L.A. Galaxy. Dave talks to Whitecaps FC coach Martin Rennie to preview the important tilt and we’ll hear from Whitecaps midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker at practice.

David Pratt - Thursday May 18 - Hour 1

7:05 – 7:10
OPEN / THE RANT / SPORTSACTION

THE RANT: Part-time soccer icon, part-time underwear model David Beckham stirred up the news this morning when he announced he will be retiring from soccer after this season. Beckham will retire having transcended the game, but for different reasons than the likes of Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods. As Dave says, Beckham will be recognized for blending the world of soccer with fashion and pop culture.

SportsAction: Pick two teams. They win, you win. Dave likes the Golden State Warriors to push the San Antonion Spurs to a seventh game with a win tonight, and he likes the Penguins to hand the Senators another loss in Game 2 of their series.

TENCER TALKS CANUCKS, OILERS

Dave talks one-on-one with Dan Tencer of 630 CHED in Edmonton on the topic of what was more personally satisfying for him: Seeing the Canucks swept in the first round, or the Leafs losing in dramatic fashion in Game 7? They also talk about the current state of the Oilers and whether or not they’re bound for the playoffs or basement next season.
