The Vancouver Giants have retained the first overall pick in the 2013 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

The Regina Pats actually won today's draft lottery but were only able to move up three spots to no. 2, leaving the Giants with the top pick they could use to select top prospect Tyler Benson of Edmonton.

The 15-year-old set an Alberta Bantam League record this season with 57 goals and 146 points in 33 games.

"We are extremely pleased to have received the first overall pick in this upcoming bantam draft," said Giant general manager Scott Bonner.  "Our plan this season was to rebuild for the future, and having this pick will allow us to acquire a significant piece of the championship puzzle."

The draft takes place May 2.
